Morning all. Totally overcast and steady rain at present. One of those days when you feel like pulling the duvet up and going back to sleep for another couple of hours. Mme went off to her monthly meeting of ladies who gather for a gossip and often a demonstration of craft or baking skills yesterday afternoon, and was surprised to see how many new French and English had turned up after the summer break. Several had moved into the area from England, while others had only heard recently about the group from members. The local council gives them an annual grant as it helps to foster good relations between the countries, and also helps to promote language skills. Have a dry day if possible.
It suits me far better to have longer daylight in the evenings when I am out and about. You can not do much about the length of the day, and it only comes into play if you watch a clock. I had a couple in my village in England who had never had electricity installed and would go to bed when it was dark. You knew in winter to not go and see them after 4.30 pm.
Morning all. Sunshine and showers here at present, so more indoor tasks ahead of me. Have you noticed how the Internet can take you into areas you never give a second thought to most of the time. Yesterday evening I noticed an article about the likely shortage of toilet paper in the UK in the case of a no deal exit. This is a joke I thought, but no it was about the manufacturers saying that they relied on just in time deliveries of the raw materials, and there was only so much stockpiling they could do. So when did perforated toilet paper first appear. Round about 1880 in America I found out. This led me to the toilet paper of the year award, closely followed by the awards for the best degradable ones. Now you would have to be of a certain age to remember how just after WWII it was quite normal to find newspaper cut into squares hanging from a hook in a toilet. Later there were Izal sheets, that were extremely rough to use, but did make excellent tracing paper. There was a comedy gold moment in an episode of Steptoe and Son, when Albert was seen with a sewing machine perforating some rolls of paper he had found. This year instead of the pre-Christmas plea from the family for some nice French wine and cheese, it could be toilet paper. Still thinking about the just in time part of this. Enjoy your day!
The nuns at my two eldest daughter's convent school in Tring instructed the girls they must only use three single sheets at a time. I think the toilet rolls were the bog standard ones at the time.

Morning all. It is bright, sunny and mild with a forecast temperature of 24°C which is just right for getting on outside. I have noticed that our garden bird feeder is getting plenty of visits from the great tits looking to see if I have put out any peanuts yet. When they find none they then go onto the stone wall of the barn looking for insects. It will have to get a lot colder before I start to feed them. I see that you can grow peanuts yourself, but will need to read up on that before I try. Enjoy your day whatever you have planned.
They're certainly well off colour atm, if you do manage to beat them, I would expect more than murmurings regarding a change of manager!
If there is a shortage of loo paper they could always supply more copies of The Guardian, it must have some use to the public.
Talking to the pharmacist today, Mme was told that some 500 types of medication are in short supply. Although the pills are made in France and throughout the EU, the ingredients come from China. Six out of ten pharmaceutical companies worldwide are owned by Americans, and the trade war between Trump and China is behind the shortage. It really shows up how interconnected trade is today.
