This backs up the French government's statement that its reduced speed limit has slightly reduced the high number of deaths. The large number of deep ditches and solid plane trees at the side of many roads in France does not help. I can back up the statistics re: driving in Spain, they seem not to be so manic about getting (sorry Jacob!!) from A to B.
Morning all. Bright and breezy here, with a chance of a shower. I am not holding my breath for one, and will set about the watering especially now that I have some new plants in. My next door neighbour gave me a large bin full of small logs yesterday that he was keeping for his BBQ. Like me he cannot be bothered to get everything out to cook something for just one or two people. The logs will be useful come the winter to start the woodburner off. Enjoy your day whatever you have planned.
Morning all.. Still three weeks to our next French trip.. Our neighbours have told us that there are currently 35 people in our village including 9 children.. Whereas for most of the year only three of the fifteen houses are populated with four residents..
Good morning all from a warm and dry Weston-super-Mare! We had a few showers yesterday but nothing like the deluge that was promised! Have a good day
Morning all. Sunny and a nice temperature to be out and about. Long range weather forecast suggests light rain next Tuesday and Wednesday, and with both mine and my daughters watering to do at present I am getting in more than my daily walking needs. Two large areas down south had big fires yesterday and they had to bring in the Canadair aircraft. They have managed to put them both out overnight, and no one was injured, but there are now large forest areas that people are banned from using incase another one starts, trapping them inside. It takes very little in this hot dry spell to set one off.
Morning all. Another bright and sunny day, temperature starting to rise again, although not up to the levels we experienced recently. Chances of rain, 0%. We have some new English neighbours who have bought a bungalow in the hamlet. I must pop round and make myself known to them. They bought it from another English couple who didn't have the time to make use of it. One of the previous owners was a physiotherapist who had actually trained as a botanist, and was very knowledgeable about wild plants and how they could be used for medicinal purposes. When we bought this house we found a book of treatments for ailments using plants that are around us, and our botanist could tell you if they did work and why. Very interesting neighbour, and sorry to see him go.
As I fall into the over seventy year old bracket I was interested to read that I am a safer driver than a 17-24 year old. Every year I get an eye test and every year am told that nothing has changed, and I would easily pass the driving test without glasses. When I was in my fifties an optician asked me if I needed reading glasses. I told him that I have three different strength ones for reading, using a computer, or playing the piano because they are all different distances away from my eyes. He tested it out, and found it was right. Since then little has changed, so if you are in need of them once you become older the need for new ones may diminish. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-46916429
Morning all. Another bright sunny and warm morning. The Parisians are back to their family home, and last night were happy to be sat outside for a meal and gossip. Another neighbour tells me that her family who live in Paris are always grateful to leave the city and come here to get their fill of nice clean country air. Compare that with some householders in my old Parish who were complaining to the council that a farmer had dumped the waste from his cattle shed too near to their back gardens. They were creating quite a stink about it. Enjoy you day whatever your intend to do.
Hola a todos. I've had a week off and for the first time in a very long time I've done nothing. Been out and ran a few errands went out with mates a couple of times and the rest just been dossing around at home. It has been beautiful and now I just want to be a pensioner! Hope all are well. Not long till the season starts - thank f for that.
Morning all. The sun is up and another dry day is forecast. Had my first view of my local team last night and they have imported a left winger with amazing tricks and speed. Within the first five minutes the opposition had put two men on him, and he looked to be the find of the season. Unfortunately he has the same fault that I have seen so often, the final ball. Having done the hard bit of getting to the goal line, he then sits it up nicely for the keeper to have some catching practice, or hits it over the heads of everyone to go for a throw in on the other side of the pitch. So much promise and so little to come from it.
