Morning all. Sunny and hot again here. Yesterday afternoon my garden visit was lovely except for the heat. Fortunately there were plenty of shady spots to cool off in with the aid of an ice cream. To be able to make a lifestyle choice is great, but it is easy to forget that not everyone is so lucky. So with renewed vigour time to get back to my efforts to create something that gives me pleasure, even if it never will be as good as the one I was in yesterday.

Afternoon all. Recovering from an day out in MK. Second visit to Spurs spiritual home :emoticon-0105-wink: this time to see German "industrial rock" band Rammstein. Two and a half hours of mind blowing aural and visual stimulation. YouTube videos cannot begin to do justice to the show they put on! Sensational stuff. Absolutely sensational.

Apparently there are so many roundabouts in MK to give people ample opportunity to turn round and go home <whistle>

We visited MK over 40 years ago to visit friends at the time when they had build the roundabouts but had not got round to installing any signs. Quite an interesting trip.

Congratulations to Hornette who has completed another half marathon. How many times has she said "never again"?

A little bit of local history for you that I have come across.

Edward Cormick, aged 24, from Abbots Langley, was found guilty at Hertfordshire assizes in March 1786 of stealing some scarlet cloth and a sack of wheat (value 8 shillings) and was sentenced to be transported to Australia. However, during his first year in Sydney Cove he escaped into the bush, but gave himself up after 3 weeks, following an earthquake. He was subsequently tried and sentenced to death and executed on 25th June 1788 by reprieved criminal James Freeman. Freeman was one of the first convicts to be transported to Australia after being convicted of highway robbery at Aldenham.

Morning all. A clear blue sky and the temperature expected to peak at 30°C, and no rain is sight. Around 5.00 pm yesterday I noticed that our water pressure had dropped and that water was coming out of the tap very slowly. By 8.00 pm no water was coming out of it at all, and still there is not a drip. I filled the kettle last night to make sure of a cup of tea this morning, but such things as brushing teeth relies on bottled water, and showers will have to wait, along with washing up from dinner. Such a simple thing as turn a tap and we normally have as much water as we want. I suspect that if we had to walk a mile or two to get some from a standpipe we might think twice about how we use it.

Well our water, or lack of it is caused by the pump that lifts the water to the tank in the water tower a couple of miles away breaking down. Engineers have been sent to see if they can fix it, but meanwhile the fire brigade has been called into action. Firstly they have to provide water to the farms for the cattle, but they will be bringing packs of bottled water to the households. The water tower in question serves a large area with probably two dozen villages and a lot of small hamlets scattered around. When will the pump be fixed or replaced? How long is a piece of string seems to be the answer.

Decided that rather than use water I would put a bottle of Old Speckled Hen in the fridge to have with my bread and cheese. It was delightful, and now I am looking at my supply to see what else I have that would benefit from chilling. Some Hobgoblin or one of the local micro-brewery ales that are very similar. The trouble is that too many and my best intentions for the rest of the day will be put aside.

Morning all. Bright, warm and quite breezy in rural France, with no rain on the horizon. Our water supply has returned thankfully, but until the experts have tested the quality we are advised not to drink it. About two thousand people were without it, but I was quite impressed with just how quickly measures were put in place to ensure that we had enough to keep us going. Three litres of bottled water for drinking was the ration per person, plus unlimited quantities for washing, toilets etc. A special website was set up very quickly to keep us informed. I think that the supplier did well.
