Morning all. It looks like today and tomorrow we will still have this extreme heat. My water consumption has increased dramtically, and I have stayed off the red stuff. There is one problem with that of course. A 25 cl glass of wine doesn't require so many trips to the bathroom as a litre mug of cold water. Seeing as I downed three mugs of water while watching the football last night it is a wonder that I didn't need to get up in the night. Electricity usage has rocketed to record levels over the country with fans and aircon in full use. The wind turbines about 5 miles away however have not turned at all for several days through lack of even a slight breeze. Will get in the car with the aircon, go to the supermarkets that all have aircon, and pity the staff who work in the kitchens to prepare customers plat du jour.
Morning all. Another day to do as little as possible. The forecast says that today will be hotter still in this part of the country, but hopefully it will be the last day of such extreme heat. There is a difference between here and Watford. 92% humidity there, against 23% here. That dry heat is far more comfortable when you get up into the 30 's. Still there is little we can do to order the weather we would like. Enjoy your day.
Thankfully in Herts we are likely to only have to suffer one hot day of the summer, back to normal tomorrow.
I remember quite well the old saying that "we have just had a hot day, so that is summer over for this year".
The UK had a great summer last year, this year not so good but very comfortable at about 20 degrees. I remember how debilitating the heat can be in SW France, thankful for the shutters and thick stone walls of la maison Le Noyer Blanc. I do remember some great days emerging from the house on a boiling hot day for gouter then a splash in the pool. As I've got older extreme temperatures have become imperative to avoid, no skiing in winter, no Spain in high season.
Morning all. Quite a change in our weather today with the sky totally overcast. The temperature has dropped to a fresh feeling 22°C and maximum expected this afternoon is 30°C which is quite easy to live with. If it stays like this I might well allow myself a glass of wine this evening, something that has been off limits while the heatwave was here, mind you I don't think that four days without has done the waistline much harm.
Morning all. Bright blue sky at the moment, but the forecast does say there could be a shower this afternoon. The sounds of the countryside have returned. The farm machinery is on the move again, and the birds are in full voice once more. It really was very odd last week in the heatwave how there was total silence for several days. Enjoy your day whatever you have to do.
