We have staff awards at work each year and usually I don't really care too much about them. However, it changed today. A couple of years back I got bullied pretty badly by two very senior officers and the only way I felt I could escape was to take a job at a lower grade. It was a pretty stupid move on my part at the time but I didn't care - just needed to get away from them and the method of exit was secondary in my considerations as it was beginning to affect my health. The two managers involved left less than a year after and in July 2016 I got asked to go back and jumped at the chance and got my grade back through an open recruitment 9 months later. One of the first things I did on my return was set up a local directorate network for people who were suffering similar experiences to what i had and a few months later I was asked to be one of the two coordinators for the whole department. I've done that role with others ever since and it's in addition to the day job. The network won our team of the year award today. Sorry to brag but it felt pretty bloomin' good
Well done that man and i do not use the word man lightly .I wish there was others like you . its guys like you that make me proud to be a horn. COYH
See you all for the start of the season. I am off to Zihua for a few weeks. Well a bit further south, with nothing more than the wife and a sense of adventure. Hope we get one big signing before the season starts but won't hold my breath. HAve a goodun all.
Well done Dan, great outcome. Bullying is my pet hate. In recent years I have experienced one of my daughters being bullied at school, another daughter bullying her sister within the family business and this week my mother in law failing her 'trial' in an assisted living complex because of complaints by two of the controlling 'inmates'. Fortunately there can be good outcomes and the negative experiences often makes the victims stronger and better able to cope in future.
Morning all, lovely day here and I have to erect some taller netting for my mange tout to scramble up before it gets too hot and they get any taller. The school where my wife worked in England was fairly small, so the staff were able to keep a close watch on all the children, and bullying was not tolerated. At a fairly early stage the parents of a bully were called in for a meeting with the head, and in some cases that did bring an improvement in behaviour. Sadly other parents would not accept that their child could be responsible for such behaviour, so without the support from home other methods were used, often making the child realise that he/she was missing out on some of the rewards for good relationships with others. Hopefully as some of those children grew up they had learnt something about living alongside others, and didn't follow their parents attitude, that they always were right, and had to impose their views on others by whatever means. So I applaud anyone who has success in making life better for others. Well done Dan.
Bloody marvellous. What you've suffered from is something I've had to put up with in the past, culminating in a "settled out of court" constructive dismissal claim. Another previous employer made me redundant and then delayed my redundancy payment "because you walked into another job and I released you a month early". As I pointed out: redundancy rules are there to protect people like me from people like him. So BIG respect for how you've gone about creating a good atmosphere in the workplace.
A third employer promoted me then was taken over shortly after while I was still on "probation" for the position (a technicality, had the powers that be not sold the company on) and made most of us redundant.... including me after 1 years, 11 months and 3 weeks with the company - the threshold at the time for redundancy was of course 2 years back then! And people wonder why I'm a bit left wing when it comes to employment rights!!
Morning all, bright sunshine, no breeze, and a forecast temperature of 33°C this afternoon. On double watering duties at present as in addition to my veggies, I am also looking after my daughter's flowers, tomatoes and cucumbers while she is on holiday in Italy. It can only be done first thing in the morning, or better when it cools down a bit in the evening. By the time I finished last night it was after Dave had tucked himself up in bed, and I still had my dinner to eat.
Morning all. I am told that we had a storm overnight, with lots of banging, flashing, and the sound of heavy rain on the roof. Looking at some containers outside, I can see that we did have a lot of rain. Somehow this all passed me by. It would seem that watching riders struggle to cycle up mountains is not regarded as hard work. It felt exhausting just watching, so I feel that I have good reason to sleep so soundly.
I've spent the last couple of days in Yorkshire sourcing a kitchen from an excellent UK company, DIY Kitchens, a Which no 1 choice. I used to think West Watford was grim but several of the towns I visited were like scenes from Les Miserables 2.
