No sign of let up here. Being by the sea we get a slight breeze that keeps it a little cooler. Even so yesterday approached 30. Forecast is not let up for another week at least. In June we have had zero rain.
We were 50 miles from the Arctic Circle one day last week where they were experiencing the highest June temperatures on record! Didn't need any of the warm clothing we took.
We started off in Arendal (Southern Norway), Yorkie, then Sassnitz (island of Rugen, North Germany), Ornskoldsvik (Sweden), Umea (Sweden), Lulea (Sweden, at the top end of the Gulf), Mariehamn (on the main island of the Alund archipelago, Swedish speaking but part of Finland) and then back through the Kiel Canal. Thoroughly enjoyable...small boat round islands, steam train trip, hiking, visit to perhaps the most spectacular waterfall in Europe. We seem to have brought the record temperatures back with us too!
Morning all, the heat continues, with it becoming a degree or two warmer each day. Maybe it will break in the next day or two, but meanwhile I spend a time each evening watering my vegetable plants. I managed, despite wearing my hat, to remove a part of my scalp on a low hanging tree branch as I went to the water butts. Blood everywhere. This morning I will take my revenge by removing the branch, which is already dead. I do not wish to do the same thing again. Tonight sees my youngest granddaughter perform in her school concert for the last time as she moves in September to secondary school. I think that it would be fair to say that French is her first language despite speaking English at home. She has been at school since she was four years old and it is amazing to see her flip between the two when speaking to her friends who are both nationalities. If only I could!
Morning all.. Saw a quaint English film.. The Bookshop last night... Well worth catching up on at some point if you like films set in the 50s in the UK Sent from my G3121 using Tapatalk
Our 4 y-o grandson is completely fluent in Portuguese and English(and very articulate, at least in English). My struggles to improve my French infuriate me, but our French neighbours are very tolerant! Cheers
It's called switching when someone rips between two languages. I find it hard to do on the spot, to be honest. But it can be done. Today, after a long time of it being overcast with lots of tiptop rain, the sun is out! Think I'll have a BBQ later. Have a good weekend all!!
Morning from a very grey island, where we have storms predicted for today. jerzeypie took the boat overnight, so should be half-way between Poole and Watford at the moment. He's going to family friends in Oxon on Wednesday afternoon, before going to all 3 days of the GB GP next weekend.
Morning all, still dry and hot here for the moment, but there is cloud about and the forecast suggests thunderstorms for this evening. I didn't get back from my granddaughters concert until after dark, so need to go and do my watering now. I have used about 500 litres of rainwater in the past week or so, therefore some refilling of my water butts would be welcome. Have a good day whatever you have planned.
Mother and a Father of a storm underway at present. Heavy rain and a spectacular light show. The noise woke even me up. The electricity had tripped out so the fan that helps with the heat had stopped. It should be light by now, but it is very overcast and no sign of a blue sky yet. I don't think my watering was required last night.
