"Aletta" just teased us and now "Bud" is producing some heavy rains here. Although the latter is heading towards Los Cabos as the first two hurricanes of the season rip through the Pacific ocean. The smells of the rain on the dry, hot ground here is something else and it is forecast to continue. Finally, Tlaloc answered.
As usual, I used a lot of energy having the fits but apart from that I'm fine. The doctor did give me the option to have tomorrow off as well but I decided not to as I have a physiotherapy appointment on Friday morning and I thought that I should have a day back at work before going to an appointment where I'm having to do squats with a 7kg weight in each hand.
Mornin' all. Well they said we are on an upwards move regarding temperature and this morning a foggy mist which is a normal sign of a hot day. I see some on here are not yet warming towards the world cup but I must admit I'm well into a simmer. There are a couple of games that look interesting before England even get underway. Obviously for me Spain vs Portugal, but also Egypt vs Uruguay. That said I'll probably only watch 45 mins of each. Too many other things to do. Anyways enjoy one and all
Morning all, looks as if we are going to have a decent day to get on with jobs. Dry, sunny spells and not too hot. Yesterday the picnic went very well with about 25 people sitting down alongside one of the large lakes. It is set up as a recreational area with a water slide, a man made beach, lots of play equipment for children, and interesting signs pointing out natural features to see on the paths surrounding the lake. One of our group uses the lake for her triathlon training, donning a wet suit in the winter months and doing the length and back most mornings. She is quite successful in her competitions, the one that is for veterans, or the over 60 s. I dipped a finger in the water and came to the conclusion it would be too cold for my liking.
Morning all. Another lovely day here without rain. There is a large field behind mine that has a crop of barley in it. Looking at it yesterday I see that a third of it has been lost due to the storms last weekend. The wind that blew through has flattened it, the problem having the hedgerow cut so low. I have more protection as I try to build up my barriers to keep some of the wildlife at bay, and apart from dead wood coming out of some of the trees, there was nothing to show for the storm.
Well our weather goes up and down but at this moment a dust storm on Mars covers a quarter of that planet, and could end up engulfing it all Arguably the greatest engineering feat of mankind, the robot Opportunity has put itself to sleep. Even though 56 times past its sell by date, Nasa has confidence that it will survive. Even if its clock stops and fails to try a reboot there is a last chance, a light sensor that will try a reboot when it thinks there is sufficient light to get power from the solar panels (if they are not totally dust covered). The problem is that the storm could last weeks. Fingers crossed it can continue to extend the records it keeps breaking - 45 kilometers and 14 years on an alien planet. I think if it was just the exploring it was doing it might get junked, but it is teaching us so much about how to survive on Mars there is a new motivation to keep it going. Here our problems seem miniscule by comparison. A bit of fog hid Cadiz across the bay until 9am. Then the sun came out as we took breakfast on the prom. Should be a warm day. Enjoy one and all
Morning all, we had a little overnight rain so I am pleased to have all my grass cut. Talking to a neighbour yesterday as I was pulling nettles out I was reminded that they make a lovely soup. I did ask if she would like them, but she didn't. I think she believed she would have to come and collect them, saving me a job. The biggest news item here today is the government ordering a replacement set of plates for official dinners to replace the now incomplete sets that are fifty years old. If only life were that simple in the UK.
In this part of France (Charente-dept 16), it seems that properties that have been on the market for ages-2 years or so-are being sold quickly-to UK people leaving mostly. It would appear that people who waited to see how Brexit would develop have finally had enough.
Morning all. JT that's interesting. Here in Spain Brits are heading back home in some numbers and the Spanish government are doing everything to persuade them to stay. With current uncertainty on pensions, tax, healthcare, etc. seems a crazy time for people to make the move to the EU (as in investing in property). However the time is right for property owners to return. The pound being low means you can recoup property losses to a certain degree. But good to hear that property movement is increasing there as it is here. Cheers
JT any indication that prices actually paid are increasing? Here there seems a slight upward trend (not talking about Madrid and Barcelona where prices are on a big up - but countryside and coast).
It only takes 1experience of the French health service to hope to become as French as possible! Recently a friends brother had a suspected heart attack, but diagnosed as angina in UK. Cane to France another attack, whipped into hospital-confirmed that both were in fact heart attacks. It is true that these stories are minute incidents in the overall scheme of things, and it Is also true that the NHS has one of the best records in the world for performance given its income, but almost everybody has a good story about the French health system, and a comparatively poor story about the Uk one. I am sorry if I have politicised this otherwise ‘uncontaminated’ thread. I’ll stop-it’s time for a cafe and pastis.
