Yes I did see the exchange over that. You do not say that funding comes in part from the EU. The small scheme I was looking at was for a total spend of €14M with the EU contribution being €5M. The rest came from the state, the region, the department and the area in decreasing amounts. I have the feeling that the UK does not apply for such funding, but maybe that is because in England the work is carried out by private companies who might not be eligible to apply. The fact that it is happening out here with such a huge area to cover, and tiny communities scattered over it would not happen if it was left to a private company, but a scheme that draws various administrations together is working.

For me, that makes it worse - if the EU have contributed, it's a portion of Westminster's £20.9 million & not the £580 million SG share. EU contributions go direct to Westminster & are disbursed from there to the devolved administrations - or not, as they see fit. Many Scottish farmers & fisherman can attest to that.

It is not right how Westminster handle EU funds. Large farmers in England who get millions from the CAP get paid on time, whereas small hill farmers can wait for months to get the funds they need to keep running.

Back to topic. It is damp and grey in rural France this morning, but quite mild. Youngest granddaughter's school is having a Christmas market this afternoon, so off to that to buy some chocolate truffles. There will no doubt be plenty of cakes to munch as you go round, and a glass of punch to wash it down. The older ones who are now at secondary school will be spending tomorrow wrapping presents for people in the largest supermarket. The donations they receive go towards the school trip next summer to keep the costs down a bit.

For those requiring a Gastroscopy and / or a Colonoscopy next year I can personally recommend having a sedative for both rather than using the gas/air alternative. I had both procedures done this morning without a sedative so I could drive back home afterwards, not my best decision!!.

    https://www.conservatives.com/sharethefacts/2017/12/blue-passports

The return of the 'iconic' blue passport - does anyone here have their pre-EEC passport still? I'm damned sure mine was black, not blue....

I'm not sure, however, that blue passports will make Britain a 'proud, great nation' though. At a cost of £500M - when hunger & poverty are both roaming the streets, ready to strike each and every one of us...

Not a lot - the demise & vilification of erstwhile hero Troy Deeney appears to have been the main talking point...:(

Oh - and welcome back. <cheers>

  13. Cheers BB. Yes I notice Troy is splitting opinion more than ever. Bit concerned about the set up at the minute but I guess a couple of decent results over Christmas would put it right again.

You couldn't make it up if you tried - Immigration Minister Brandon Lewis has revealed that the shiny-new-blue-make-us-great-again passports probably won't even be manufactured in the UK....<doh>

It is good to know that there is someone in Government. Some days one really does wonder.

  20. There are thousands of us - working our butts off to make something most of us never wanted work and being frustrated at every turn.
But I will stop there - it's nice to be back :)
