Morning all. Bright and warm day here. Just the white trails of aircraft to colour the blue sky. Waiting for a parcel to arrive that I am taking in for my daughter as she is away. ETO: 10.18 to 11.18. Seems a bit precise somehow.

Well tomorrow at 6am UK time I'm off to India for 3 weeks. Love cricket and curry so should feel at home.

Should have been at the Geordie game with my Geordie mate but had to change flights so arrive back on the day and wife wouldn't accept rushing up north for the game :emoticon-0106-cryin.

Wonder if I'll bump into any 'orns fans?

Anyway I'll keep an eye when I can on both the 'orns and canaries (yup Dave you've found a convert <cool>).

Hopefully over 20 points by the time I get back. <cheers>

BB sadly a bit north of there. But I'll be happy to find the equivalent of a village green game. Bet kids in India bowl spin from a very early age. And mentioning Tendulkar should wim me a few browny points.

But that Newcastle game has become part of life over recent years with my mate Jeff, bit sad about that. Although looks likely we will be in the same division next year. - hopefully :emoticon-0103-cool:

However never regretted travel opportunities and somehow india has past me by so I'll grab it while I can <cheers>

As there are a few teachers on here I hope that someone can help me out. I've just heard someone on the television describe something as very unique! I didn't realise that there were degrees of uniqueness

Dave, I'm a qualified English Teacher here in Spain, not that the qualifications are difficult, sad to say.

On 'unique' you are right and wrong - as always with English there are exceptions to every rule.

'Unique' can mean 'unique' as in the only one, but it can also be used to express 'unusual'. And in the second context the adjective can validly be modified.

That said if you open that as a discussion on the teacher's forum that I use you'd end up with many different views and many rules to back up each argument.

The owner of that forum pulled someone up the other day, saying 'focused/focusing' was the most misspelt word in English. I pointed out that versions with double 's' are perfectly acceptable. He hasn't responded to me since. These guys take this stuff very seriously :cheesy:

Tonight I am off on my travels, this time to one of my favourite places, Corsica. Chateauroux after their poor 0-0 draw on Monday at home, tonight travel to Ajaccio. I expect little from them as Ajaccio are doing very well near the top of the table. As you leave the ferry from Toulon to head across the island you pass the ground, which is actually part of a sports centre, with a concrete stand without any soul. The commentary I picked on was supposed to be in English, it is not, but on one occasion I found that it was Jon Marks, sat in a studio somewhere providing a first rate description of the game.

Spot on. In fact I'd say that the absolute meaning of the adjective is now far and away the least commonly used meaning of the two. Such is the ever-changing nature of language.

The devil in me would have forced a response along the lines of "Are you sure you haven't misspelled that?" <devil>

Happy man tonight as the Chats get a 1-2 win. Had a feeling that they would suffer after the poor show on Monday, but they collected another three points. :emoticon-0100-smile

Blue skies and sunshine up here, with a highly unseasonal 10C.

Perfect weather for mowing I suppose. :(

Just watched the Wet Spam v Liverpool game - all I can say is 'Roll on November the 19th'.

    The Spammers were woeful...
