Good morning all from an overcast but dry Dorset. Thinking back to the other day when my friend passed out in the entrance to a pub, a young woman with a baby took control of the situation, and kept in touch with the medical services while tending to my friend. She had just finished a first aid course, but didn't expect to need it so soon. I did one years ago, and maybe ought to update it. A very worthwhile thing to do if you have some time.
Morning all for the last time from Dorset as later we move on to East Sussex. Tomorrow we will on the high seas and finally back home. Think this trip will be remembered for some good and not so good.
Afternoon all from Jersey. Left a very cold Watford first thing this morning to get back to a sunny and (relatively) hot Jersey at lunchtime.
Hopefully you can sneak back into France in between strikes. Lots planned for Tuesday. Several ferries were turned back recently due to action by French port workers.
Good day all. Been chugging along on the ferry for two hours so half way across. I wonder where the line telling me to adjust my watch is?
Well if you're halfway across, you are well away from Toryland - I'd say it's safe to put your watch forward 150 years...
Morning all from Jersey - no idea what the weather is as I haven't opened my curtains yet. OFH - does your crossing really only take 4 hours? We're supposed to be nearer to England and the "fast" ferry takes 6 hours, and the overnight one 9 hours and that's with all engines working - they still sail when the ferry is an engine down. Condor really do take the piss regarding the monopoly they have on the routes from the island. Unfortunately, I don't think any other companies have come forward to try and get a licence from the States to provide competition.
Morning all, back home after a good journey. Yes it is a four hour crossing from Newhaven to Dieppe Barry, day or night. First one off the ferry yesterday, customs gave the passport a glance to make sure it was not about to run out, and I was away. Lots of building works going on at autoroute service areas. They seem to be trying to set up even more shopping centres. Not good for the stress levels I would have thought.
Frenchie Hi there.. Is your friend OK? One of my students who comes to me for supervision, my semi-retired work, just met a young guy on the street the other night as she came out of a party who was about to jump in front of traffic and end his own life. She had done a suicide intervention training and within an hour the young lad was picked up by his dad and going back to his home. I was very touched by what she did. I have just had a client whose 7 year old son collapsed and almost died from a brain clot in the West Indies and they had to get him back to Gt Ormond St where they were asked whether they would risk brain surgery which was done via the femural artery and had maybe a 15% chance of success. They went for it and two weeks later the little lad is back at school and happy with his friends. They had to transfer the glue to block the blood vessels up the artery and then navigate to the clot.... they had a tolerance of one millimetre otherwise he could have been brain damaged and there was only one surgeon there who could do such an op Mum is completely traumatized as the clot could not be removed and he could collapse again at any time, or never collapse ever again. Puts life in perspective... Have a good day folks
