Good morning from a dry and a bit nippy Weston-super-Mare! Enjoy your visit to Somerset Leonardo, I hope your day is perfect in every sense! Have a good day and beat those binners!
Morning all, sunny & bright here again. 91F in the sun yesterday afternoon! Had a fine evening last night with my ex work colleagues at the local Brasserie to officially celebrate my and my assistants retirement. Yet again they showered us with goodies and presents and genuinely nice things were said. Some came a fair distance to be there and I was humbled by that. I only ever felt I was quietly doing my job and am embarrassed by the appreciation they showed. I will miss them but not the work! I don't know where this last week has gone and already I don't know how I had time for work! Apart from the shopping trip with Mrs S we have had a lot of fun this week but I guess the holiday feeling will wear off and we will settle into a routine interspersed with holidays. Thursday night we went to the opening of the new Falkirk "park" for want of a better description. The British Waterways Board and Falkirk Council have turned a large area of ground around the canal into an open space for people to enjoy various activities. The main feature is the Kelpies - mythical horses - ginormous metal sculptures right next to the Motorway. A 15 minute sound light & fire presentation was the main event and it was excellent. As it happens we parked next to Falkirk FC stadium and I noticed that it only had stands on 3 sides and none of the corners filled in. Its a new stadium so it does not look like a pigs ear but it sort of looks unfinished. Stirling Albion only has 2 proper stands and very low terracing behind the goal and again no filled in corners, again its fairly new. You get what you can afford I guess so the Vic is getting there slowly. Enjoy the sun if you have it and the choc fest and hopefully 3 points but I am not hopeful for Monday.
Morning all from a sunny Jersey. jerzeypie left early this morning to help with a car boot sale in the car park of his old school. It's to raise money for the Explorer Scout trip to Kenya he's going on this summer, and he can't really get out of helping as his Mum is one of the leaders on the trip. I must admit, I would prefer it if he was here doing some more studying for his A-levels.
Morning all, another bright sunny day here and plenty to do before 4.00 pm. Mme has her birthday next month and the children clubbed together to buy her a greenhouse. On our trip over last week it was squeezed into the car and brought back. Yesterday afternoon I constructed a base and managed to erect half of it. Seeing as we will be out tomorrow and Monday it needs to be finished today. Then of course there is the watering that needs to be done and a bit of hoe pushing. Think I will have my coffee while looking at the next page of instructions and trying to find the right pieces of aluminium.
Morning all Sunny early this morning but it's clouded over now. Just time for coffee before setting off up the M3 and hoping the worst of the Easter traffic has already gone. End of season games can be dull and they can be all-or-nothing affairs so let's hope it's the latter today and the all is ours and the nothing Ipswich's.
An old school friend put this on Facebook earlier: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd....7_10152358345173529_2603354163113239188_n.jpg
Morning all from a mixed day in bandit country - partly cloudy that is nice when the sun is out and chilly when behind the clouds. Just booking the train tickets for QPHa and then wandering down to The Vic. Had a bad night in my local, the locals were all talking about their promotion and then put "We Are The Champions" on the juke box - strange that I had the longest ever pee last night! and I never did like Queen!
Well the greenhouse is finished without too much help from the instructions. I have seen worse, IKEA comes to mind, but a number of pieces had lost their numbers which doesn't help. All bolted down and as I stood back to admire the result I was informed that the patio needs extending to the entrance. Thank goodness the builders merchants are closed tomorrow and Monday.
Good morning all from a dry, for now, Weston-super-Mare. Rain promised, well it is bank holiday! Have a goog and happy Easter day!
Morning all from Jersey. It is the first net session for the cricket team I play for today, but as I only found out on Wednesday, I decided I wasn't going to change my plans for today. It looks like I've made a good call on that, as it's raining and as a spinner a wet ball is an absolute nightmare. I remember when I was in my late teens and early 20s I played for Greenwood Park CC in Chiswell Green, and our pre-season nets were indoors at Watford Leisure Centre. Unfortunately, there isn't an indoor option available on the island or if there is, it's probably only available for those in the top leagues so that those who represent the island or are near to the island teams can get the extra net time.
Morning all from a overcast and chilly bandit country, just dropped daughter off at the station as she is working and proof read part of Mrs W_Y dissertation. Off for lunch with Mrs W_Y later in one of my locals that now has a very acceptable Italian restaurant - but it will be roast Lamb for me? It's very strange going from a house fall at Easter to being just on our own so quickly. Good result yesterday and great to see Tommy Hoban getting man of the match, quality footballer. A very happy Easter to one and all...
Morning all...damp and grey here. Small amount of Easter egg consumed. Winter cricket nets always made me feel Spring couldn't be too far away. We used to have them at Old Merchant Taylors, supervised by the ex-Middlesex spinner Harry Latchman. I remember when they acquired a bowling machine and I told him I wanted to practise against fast short bowling on the leg stump. He must have set the thing at 100 mph...the first ball narrowly missed taking my head off. No helmets in those days!
Afternoon all, back from dinner with friends and the drive back was through the lanes where it really does look like summer has arrived after the warm spell we have just had. Every year the council comes along and cuts the verges to such a degree that you wonder if anything will grow again. Yet the cowslips, orchids and bluebells are creating splashes of colour everywhere and the oak trees are now in leaf. A few showers are forecast in the week ahead, but no really serious downfall. Looks as if the watering will have to continue.
Morning Dave, all. I was wondering if you were okay Dave, you are a bit late today? Still can't stop waking up at 6am and now Mrs S has decided to set the alarm for 6am to hear tweet of the day still it's very interesting.
I was late today, I woke as normal around 3.30 am and awarded myself an extra hour in bed! Lazy or what?
Morning all from a brightening bandit country. Will be off to Oil Drum Lane in a bit...bag of pre-mixed cocktails is prepared for the train journey. Mind you will not need much, did not get home until 02.30 this morning after a long day on the drink. Decision of the day - Doom Bar or Perroni!
