I think you have touched on something that applies to us all Brian. Using the written word it is quite possible to create a different persona from what we might actually be like. It therefore becomes more necessary for us to choose our words with care, and be aware of life that others live when outside of this little community, not always saying what the true us thinks as it could be offensive.
Well, that escalated. And true to form S__H pressed people's buttons. It's what he does. Or did. Not doing that for a couple of weeks now at least which is no bad thing. Not that it's a good thing. Like Leo I will not miss his particularly caustic brand of, erm, "humour", nor his asinine political comments. Suicide by "mod" it would seem.
You're welcome Brian. It seems such a shame, i hope he comes back and is the person you describe, i'm sure we could all enjoy his company without the bits that have upset others.
Not nice to hear as I drink my Burgundy! No wonder Dave sticks to malt. Just wait until Scotland goes independent and converts to the Euro!
Morning, Dave; morning, all. Better get more shut-eye, long day ahead. I was laughing away at this and then took a gulp (figuratively - it is four in the morning ), as I drink Guinness. Did they close the UK brewing of this, I can't remember? And the answer could be crucial.
I'll have to make do with English bitter. :/ Still (no pun intended, but that has given Dave an idea for his shed ), evenings of elderflower wine await you and Dave, gandy - enjoy.
Morning all, something new in the sky this morning, a single small white fluffy cloud. Think it may have got lost when trying to find Jersey.
Not sure I understand this. How can someone's views on a site like this impact their career? My point anyway was just that it is a shame not to hear from Dan as he was an interesting poster.
He is a civil servant dealing with statistics Leo. He stated before the referendum vote that he would have to be very careful about what he said. I agree that his comments made interesting reading.
I have no doubt that in real life SH could be a nice guy. However his enjoyment of this site is different to most of us. Those who post especially on the politics thread enjoy a bit of rough and tumble. We do not have to agree with our fellows - for instance one of the people I enjoy "talking to" most is Cologne - yet I find his views radical to say the least - but he never insults people and he argues his case. SH did none of that - he would state a dogmatic position - very right wing which many on here seem to oppose - and a high percentage of his posts contained personal abuse - exclude posts to him and I challenge anyone to find another poster who does that. I did not in any way mean to suggest SH was not a fervent Hornet - I was just saying hisonly "fun" on this board seemed to be on non football threads. Anyway I hope he has time to reflect and that people suchas yourself may be able to influence him slightly to cut out the snide abuse.
Yes - he and I did not always agree - but that is the wealth of ths board - people with different life backgrounds and experience, with different hopes and aspirations able to articulate them. Look how many people say they enjoy reading the politics and other threads even though they personally do not want to post there. I hope Dan returns some time. Statisticians are amongst my favourite people
SH is now serving his ban & I personally believe it is unfair of those of you who don't not like/agree with him continue to discuss him when he has no right to reply, as he is still able to read this thread. So lets get back to Beetroot - marmite - the price of wine - even the weather or more importantly whose going to buy this minx a drink
OK but the discussion could help him to understand what problems people believed were there if he does indeed read whilst he is banned. It might make it more likely he will try to fit in on his return - after all I think most of us would value his presence if he dropped the wumming. Still your call on this as you must know more about how the bans work so I for one am happy to continue to let others know that marmite is foul, beetroot lovely if not pickled, wine should be free on the NHS and the weather is unusually good for the school holidays.
