Only a dirt bag would do that... We got rid of our Dyson a few weeks ago as it was only collecting dust.
Evening all. Enjoyed my trip for my Mum's birthday. Unfortunately, I have some delayed injuries as a result of my seizures - my big toes have suffered trauma injuries and my right leg has some muscle/tendon damage which has ruled me out of the rest of the softball season. Even umpiring games isn't an option as I can't tolerate standing for a whole match.
Good morning all from a warm and dry Weston-super-Mare! Have a good day! Sorry to hear of your injuries Barry, let's hope you come back stronger!
Morning all, we had a shower for 10 minutes this morning. I think it must have been a cloud that became lost. It was not forecast, and the sun is back out again now, but it does feel a little fresher. Hope you have a good day whatever you intend to do.
Afternoon all - been up to visit Daughter No 1 and 2 grandchildren today - lovely time had and the little boy and I had a good game of football - and neither of us appeared worth £100 million - shame
Tomorrow being the 29th of the month, the huge open air market arrives in one of the local villages. In addition to all the not so cheap bargains that you will see on any French market, there are also sales of animals and poultry. In the summer months with many people from abroad in the area, the attendance has been estimated at up to 30,000 people. Mme was in the village this afternoon and noticed all of the security measures being put in place. Access is normally down five roads, but this has been reduced to two, and checkpoints have been installed at the entry to them. A number of the residents have been effectively blocked in their homes from this evening until 3.00 pm tomorrow. Knowing most of the lanes in the area I can see chaos as people will abandon their cars in them and try to walk in. It is a real shame that it has come to this as there is normally a vibrant and happy atmosphere there, but it does show how even in these rural parts safety needs to come first. To think that it was only three months ago that they closed the local police station to save a bit of money.
Morning all, slightly overcast at present, but full sun forecast to arrive shortly. What a surprise yesterday when the UK government didn't sign the contracts for Hinkley Point. It has been a rough ride for EDF to get approval and the money to carry out the project, with a judge brought in to overrule the dissenting board members. The French and Chinese officials were assembled in Sussex with pens poised, but have had a wasted journey. The French government are playing the delay down, but are clearly not happy. The people who are pleased however are the EDF shareholders who have seen the share price rise by over 10% since the news broke.
Glad for pause - bad deal for UK in my opinion - too expensive - too long till online and wrong technology. Unproven type of reactor too.
My garden if full of Solar lights, looks pretty when it gets dark Might be useful in future the way things are going
I agree with you, and think it would be bad for France as well. The timing though is dreadful when you read that last weekend Hammond was still saying it would be signed off yesterday. Not sure what the alternatives are though.
The technology is there Leo, but the political will isn't. By 2030 up to 90% of Britain's electricity could come from a combination of solar, tidal, wind & other sustainable sources, with the rest being supplied via an international supergrid - only the energy concerns don't believe this, and have, up till now, treated alternative energy as a peripheral theme. Obviously we need to also be using less energy - as part of this we need a house insulation scheme in the UK. Britain has the second oldest housing stock in western Europe, and much energy is wasted in heating. On our anarcho, syndicalist, Kropotkinist commune however we have a problem with energy because the donkey is also an anarcho communist and we, not wanting to be accused of speciesism, are much too soft with him
If what you say is true we are crazy not to rush helter skelter for those technologies. I still fail to understnad the lack of progress in getting heat and light efficiently - with storage capacity from the sun. It porvides more energy than we could ever need - we need to research how to tap it properly p.s. I assume the commune bit is just humourous
When I lived in a small English village, I had an elderly couple of neighbours who lived without electricity. At this time of year they only had a little sleep, but in the winter call on them at 5.00 pm and they were in bed. I have a generator that I could hook up to the house supply. Unfortunately I cannot get any petrol to run it unless the garage has the pump joined up to the electric supply.
