Caught them also in the stadium . Andy was a contrary so and so, he gave me grief for coming down to the stage and taking photos Amateur Photographer he called me .cheek !
BB - there was a cracking documentary / concert with Dexys on BBC4 in March. They really know how to put on a show!
I see the record collections has brought out all the kids! No point in talking about proper bands, you are all far too young.
More like Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, Acker Bilk and Chris Barber. The Southern Stompers with Pam were a regular weekly event for me. See no one knows anything about them.
Best live performances I've seen were Leonard Cohen (I was very surprised at that) and the Bhundu Boys at a little club in Hoxton. Then there was the time I went to something billed as a jazz concert in the national football stadium in Khartoum. I was one of the only two white faces in the crowd and we were brought onto the pitch to dance in front of thousands. Afterwards we were taken back stage to meet the Sudanese Minister of Culture and all the bands. A lot of kiff was passed around. It wouldn't happen now without a visit to the local jail - or worse.
Morning from a wet St. Helier. When I was at Uni, I would go and see the bands that would play at the Student Union, although there weren't very many that did in the 5 years I was there - I can't remember who they were, so wouldn't be able to tell you if any of them made it big but this was autumn 91 to spring 96. When I was in my teens, the radio station preferred by my parents was Capital Gold and I have Vintage TV on in the mornings which has a "Wake Up To The .." each morning and it is a different decade each day from the 50s to the 90s, so I probably have a knowledge of a wider spectrum of music than most my age.
Welcome back Dave you were missed. Lot of wimpy music being banded about here so lets rock it up a bit. My collection is full of The Who (best live band period), Led Zepelin, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Johnny Winter...are you getting the idea? Best concert? First real one I ever went to, The Who at the Lyceum Ballroom London, the stage was devastated at the end and I just watched in awe and amazement. Sat in HP listening to Atom Heart Mother with full choir. Hyde Park, Crystal Palace Bowl, Marquee and Albert Hall all good memories. Paid 40p to see Tir na Og, Procal Harem and Jethro at AH, brilliant seats too. Really like African music now, Bhundu Boys were great as are many others such as Kanda Bongo Man, Reme Ongala, Tinariwen, I could go on.

I'm a few years behind a few of you on the music scene. The soundtrack to my adolescence was two tone, SKA, Postcard records (of Aztec Camera and Orange Juice fame) and the ever changing incarnations of Paul Weller. I was at a gig in Islington on Saturday and the singer said "we first played this track in 1981" - confirmation, if ever it was needed, of getting old!
Tx Toby, had a quick look and there is a program there for getting rid of duplicates, esp pictures, which are my main problem. Will get back to you if I need a further steer, unless you think of anything. Scully.
