So sad for you Yorkie. I hope the stroke proves to be of the more recoverable type - our thoughts are very much with you.
Scully - you must be as blind as Mrs L is whenever she looks for something - it was near the bottom of page 2
This is a serious comment Yorkie. The father of a friend of mine had a stroke and couldn't speak. However, quite by chance, he found he could still speak French (and a little Spanish). Apparently learnt languages are processed in a different part of the brain than mother tongues. So, on the off chance that your mother knows another language, try that. I know this sounds like a joke, but please don't take it that way.
Or even try singing - speech is a left side of the brain activity whereas song is processed the right. There is a choir in Australia (and quite possibly other parts of the world) called the Stroke a Chord choir - all the members lost the power of speech after experiencing left hemisphere strokes, but all can still sing.
Clearly I am using the wrong side of my brain on a Tuesday morning in my French class. Seriously though it makes sense. On the choir comment, music can help people in many ways. Stammers can be helped by using rhythms and people who are not far short of being a vegetable can be brought out of their small worlds. One of my daughters studied music therapy and when she went to a home where people didn't communicate at all, and played some music for them, they often suddenly came to life.
If these last 3 comments do not prove what a wonderful forum this is then I do not know what could - they may not help in this case but boy do we get some information here
Sssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Don't let StainsOrn (aka Nick) hear you - he'll come on here saying that all this advice is useless........
hi there... thanks for your goodwishes etc.. my mum is bright for periods and at times very lucid..... at other times we are playing a sort of guess the word or charades game... or she forgets the sentence she has just started..... we are waiting on a further scan to determine the situation .

The statement of Morrissey is "I love Iceland and I have waited a long time to return, but I shall leave the Harpa Concert Hall to their cannibalistic flesh-eating bloodlust." Promotion manager Halldór Kvaran from RR ehf said "When the meat issue came up we realised that Harpa wouldn't work out for the concert, there are two restaurants in the building as well as a catering service and we can't order them to take meat of all their menus. We didn't even ask them to." I respect Morrissey for wishing to be vegetarian, that choice is not for me, but to try and force that on people who may attend a restaurang in the building he is in and not for his concert is wrong.

It has been bitterly cold here today and I have been out in it doing some building work for my daughter. Clearly time to settle down in front of the woodburner, warm up inside and out. I have a choice of watching Wales v England or Pays de Galles v Angleterre. Wonder if they will use the same commentary with sub-titles?
