Morning all, a bright if slightly chilly day in rural France. Tomorrow is another public holiday and most of the big stores will be firmly shut. By tomorrow I will need some floor boarding as I have at long last decided that I cannot live with a mud on lathes first floor to the barn. I have no idea how long it has been there, probably a couple of hundred years, but it has become a bit dangerous with some of the timber lathes rotting and falling through. So having checked for the best prices via the internet, a trip up to Chateauroux is needed today to keep me busy tomorrow. Before the days of the internet it would have been a trip around town to find out costs, meaning a whole day of comparing prices. Life today does have a good side to it, provided the stock control works and they do have what you want.

Good morning everyone. At work we have had a three hours meeting at 08:30 today, tediously boring for a Monday morning.

Try a whole day studying tax when you're supposed to be on holiday. Talking of which, I'm on the flight at 5.30 tomorrow evening to Gatwick, then on a flight at 7.10 Wednesday morning to spend a week in Tunisia.

Morning all, The great and not always so good are gathering in Paris at the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile for the annual ceremony when the flame at the tomb of the unknown soldier is re-lit. Built on the orders of Napoleon the foundations took two years to complete, so when he entered the city he had a wooden mock up erected to show what it would look like when complete. The centre of Paris this morning is totally traffic free apart from the official cars taking the officials to the gathering. Meanwhile in our commune there has been a small gathering around the war memorial where wreaths have been laid on behalf of the population. If you look at the census returns just before and after WW1, you realise what a toll it took on the people living here.

We, in the UK, do sometimes tend to forget what a toll both world wars had on France - in differing ways.

There are some good footballers but they are with good teams.

Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson - Swansea City
Viðar Örn Kjartansson - Vålerenga, is young and can be taught.
Birkir Bjarnason - Pescara, a good midfield player.
    Arnór Smárason - Helsingborg

I could go through the list of scorers like AC Milan did with Luther Blissett but that is not the correct way.

Just scored too - excellent finish from a fairly tight angle...

I like the sound of this one - a bit of a goal machine in Norway. Valued at around £600K apparently...
