Very sad tonight to see that Acker Bilk, the legendary Jazz clarinettist, has died at the age of 85. I watched him many times in Watford jazz club and was amazed at his skill after numerous pints of good real ale. Although he embraced popular music he was essentially a traditional jazz musician and his band was full of energy and great fun. Despite having cancer he continued performing until last year. Just another little bit of my past has faded away tonight. RIP Mate!
Kid Ory, Acker Bilk and Chris Barber were the only musicians my dad ever listened to who weren't classical music.

It would seem that Derby have already sold out of tickets for their visit to the Vic on the 22nd of the month. Their message boards suggest that some without tickets are buying them in the home stands. It is not too difficult it seems, and comments such as "....if they don't sell us enough may as well join the silent end" are starting to appear. With the new stand hopefully being fully opened by then, will the club split the north east corner off to make more room for them?
