maybe this helps explain why he should not be released Police killer Harry Roberts's five-year terror campaign to silence woman who kept him behind bars Justice Secretary Jack Straw was last night facing urgent questions about how Britainâs most notorious police killer was able to terrorise a woman whose evidence blocked his release from jail. From his cell, Harry Roberts orchestrated a horrifying five-year campaign of intimidation designed to silence 65-year-old Joan Cartwright and her son James. or the Saints, and Hemel have a home replay to negotiate first, although they are in the draw. If they win that, it'll be their first time in the competition proper.
What a superb day it has been here. Sunshine, warmth and not a cloud to be seen. With the change in the clocks it is good to get my first cuppa in the daylight and now it is possible to sit out in the evening sun and have a refreshing glass of something. After that good point yesterday it has been a good weekend.
No Leo, the same way. It was just that at 5.45 pm here we had another hour before it became dark. Tomorrow similar weather is forecast, but slightly warmer. Brought some logs up from the field this afternoon that I obtained by cutting out some of the dead wood from the spinney. We certainly do not need them at present, but our coldest month is usually February, so getting them into the barn for when needed.
Until fairly recently the "Daylight Saving Time" changes were different between the UK and Europe, so whereas Europe would put their clocks back at the end of September and forward again at the end of April, the UK would change a month later (back) and a month earlier (forward). So for around 2 months of the year UK and Europe time would be the same. This was very inconvenient for the airlines especially - timetables would have to show different times for take-off and landing depending on the month and it was a real mess. I'm not sure when it changed (within the last 20 years certainly), but - for once - it was Europe that fell into line with the UK! Now we all change on the same weekend (back & forward) in October & March. Only the US changes differently now, I believe. Plus the Russians are abandoning DST - I think. Plus Spain is (again I believe) investigating whether to change to GMT (as Portugal is already) rather than "Continental Time".
For those of you who like stats, this is interesting. http://experimental361.com/2014/10/24/club-by-club-review-championship/
When I lived in a village in Northants we had an elderly couple who lived in a one up one down cottage. They had never had sufficient money to get a connection with the electrical supply, so no matter what time of the year would go to bed when it became dark and get up when light. They also had a privy down the lane and had to go past three other cottages to get to it. Without any gas within five miles of us, all of the cooking they did was on an open fire. Their lifestyle was totally different to everyone else, but they were totally content.
we put our clocks forward a few weeks ago so not just the yanks vic and I think some states in Australia have daylight saving and some don't strange country though is australia
I've had to work on this issue making systems that can change automatically each half year, given the info. It's less complicated now, but see the list below. Daylight Saving Time observance? Count Example Countries and territories which do not observe DST at all 58 China Countries and territories where at least one location observe DST 78 United States –Countries and territories where all locations observe DST some part of the year 67 Germany –Countries and territories where many, but not all locations observe DST 11 United States –Countries and territories where at least one location observe DST all year 2 Macquarie Island The size of adjustment varies between 15 minutes(Nepal) and 2 hours. Added to which is the time the adjustment takes place. I believe Egypt has or had its change at midnight + 1 minute. some do it as 0300, some at 0200. Anyway, it makes a real mess of statistics that are based on 24 hour records or 168 hour weeks- believe me I know. All scientists hate changeovers as it wrecks experiments that have a time base, and so do places like hospitals, where regular checks (e.g. hourly BP checks) are taken. On the other hand, there are considerable gains in safety and energy consumption to be made by switching winter to have longer light in the evenings. And finally, if anyone is still awake, here is a (true?) story. A man wrote his will when he knew that twins were to be born, and decided to leave everything to his elder child (before they were born). His two children were born on the morning the clocks went back. So the first child was born at 0150 hours on 26th October, and the 2nd child, 40 minutes later at 0130 on 26th October. Because of his will, the registration of the childrens births necessitated the time of birth being recorded. The farher died before explaining all this to anyone. Who, in law, had the right to the fathers assets ? (Ignoring the fathers stupidity).
Morning all from a mild autumnal morning in Chicago. Spending a long week-end away from it all with some friends who came here with work. Needed a break for Mrs W_Y to get away after a tough few weeks following her dad's passing. Clocks did not change here, so only 5 hours behind, but due to change this week-end. Strangest clock change I experienced was in The Maldives, where the small Island we stayed on was 30 minutes behind Male, the capital. I did not bother changing my watch.
In the past, there has been talk here of changing by half an hour so that we are between UK and European time, or changing to European time because we are closer. I think that this might have been unilateral for Jersey, and not discussed at a level for the whole of the CI. w_y, I'm guessing that there's quite a few miserable people in Chicago today given the beating the Bears were given by the Patriots yesterday.
