One of the crown jewels in the Paris landscape is Notre Dame. After the disastrous fire five years ago, the President vowed to have it reopened in five years. He has succeeded, and tomorrow we will see inside for the first time. We are told that it is spectacular, with the grime of centuries washed away along with the smoke damage. Since 1905 the state has owned all religious buildings, so it fell upon it to raise the funds and oversee the work. With Paris being the most visited tourist destination in the world, I suspect all the work will soon be paid for. I cannot imagine what might have happened if Westminster Abbey had gone up in flames. English Heritage and the C of E would still be discussing what to do next.

I think we will be going for a special visit. We were on the island a few years back when Trump visited.... for a couple of days those helicopters were here and there over Paris.....

Very late, but more grue flew over today. I guess that means some cold weather is expected. The forecast for here says decent dry days, but chilly at nights. The street light outside my house comes for a couple of days, then stays off, although it sometimes comes on in the morning. Very strange.

I have just received my Xmas bonus of £10 from the government. Introduced when Edward Heath was PM in 1972 if it had kept pace with inflation, it would now be £115. I think that amount could really help some people, but will they even notice £10?
