Morning all, nice start to the day as it was not too hot, but bright and sunny.

I see the cash keeps coming. Juventus have signed Argentine winger Roberto Pereyra from Udinese in a 15.5 million-euro (£12.3 million) deal. Pereyra joined Udinese from River Plate in 2011.

Only deals above £10M seem to interest them! ;)

We had a record-breaking 35C here yesterday. Don't know where the Met Office get their figures from, but they recorded 10C lower - their forecast for today was 23C & we had already topped that by 7:30. I had planned to mow this morning too....

Being a 'bushie' from way back, I'm aware of that - my thermometer hangs in the shade of a fir tree in our garden....

I must admit that I've never understood why official temperatures have to be recorded in the shade. At the risk of raising your ire over Union activity, many years ago I was involved in a Union dispute with the Qld Government, not over pay I hasten to add, but over working conditions. Working in the bush in summer exposed us to regular temperatures of between 110-120F at the hottest part of the day. We wanted to alter our daily starting time to 5am, and work through until noon without a break, so that we could avoid the afternoon heat - and we took temperature readings twice a day, every day for a fortnight in order to highlight the problem. The HR department denied our request, countering it with 'official Met Office data' which showed that the daily temperatures during that period had shown 'only' 95F peaks, with said data having been taken in the shade of a verandah. They were less than impressed when we asked "in that case, could we be issued with personal verandahs?"....

Same in offices where there is a legal minimum temperature but not a legal maximum temprature. There have been times in the summer where you melt. I wouldn't actually mind too much but dress codes go out the window. For every scantily clad attractive young lady there's at least one fat bloke in vest and shorts <yikes>.

Morning all, another very hot day ahead I think. First job is a visit to the bottle bank. I don't know how I empty so many 'lucky' bottles when it is not the football season.

Had forgotten that the Milk Cup started yesterday - our juniors kick off against Brentford in 20 minutes...

That picture's fantastic - love good old fashioned protests like this one. It just shows once again how hard it is for councils to balance the need for additional housing against maintaining quality of life (if indeed we can agree that things like allotments enhance that quality)

I don't think that parents should be taking their 4 year olds to a protest at the High Court, even if it is a peaceful one.

Must admit I thought the same. I'm not sure kids are ever too young to learn to fight for what you believe in are they? Anyway, I'm sure most kids would jump at the chance of a day out in London.
