Morning all. A cloudless blue sky, but a heavy overnight frost. Our baker who fills the bread dispenser is on holiday, so a trip to town to get a loaf. So what happens? The car won't start. Take Mme's before the baker closes there, so bread supplies are available. Come back and car still won't start. This was not on my list of things to do today. Have a good one.
Ah , you have reminded me... One pleasant day, we we were sitting in a cafe, slightly raised above the road , enjoying the view , having a light lunch on a tour on our tandem - we've done many ! Cue pandemonium. A police ( municipal) car came down the road towards us at great speed - lights flashing - even a cloud of dust. ( Perhaps my memory is gilding the scene a little). It screeched to a halt in front of a shop of some sort. Aha -a burglary , possible - domestic incident (unlikely) something more dramatic. We could just see 4 officers. Anyway, one leapt out from the back ,and rushed into the shop very purposefully. And came out a few minutes later , having apprehended ... a clutch of baguettes ! Unfortunately, the rush to get to the boulangerie - on another occasion - proved to be a disaster for us - but that's for another day.
Three weeks before we take the journey south to la France..... . a week in Cornwall first... St. Ives, Eden Project, lost gardens of, a resaturant or two( we are going to try out a Rick Stein meal) and some coastal walks.....Spring is in the air thankfully......
Morning all. Another heavy frost, but the sun is up and starting to melt it. Yesterday afternoon the greenhouse vent was open, meaning it was at least 16°C inside, so I had better clean it up, and think about a sowing or two. Last year Mme had a new battery for her car, and it looks like it is my turn now. I had a look on the internet and the prices for the same one can vary between €80 and €120. When she had hers I took it to a local garage that offered an excellent price for one, offered to fit it on the spot, gave me a discount for keeping the old one, but then charged me €20 for five minutes work. You cannot have it all ways I suppose. Have a good day everyone.
Loves me a bit of Cornwall. Eden and LGoH are two of my favourite places in the world. Fowey is worth a visit, too. As is the Healey's Cider Press and St. Austell Brewery.
Spent our honeymoon in St. Ives, which was a quite exotic place to go in those days. We went back for the first time in forty years, and sadly it had become very run down, despite the Tate having been built. We stayed on this second visit at a very strange B&B in St. Austell, as the main purpose of the visit was to go to The Eden project and the lost gardens. The lost gardens were so impressive, they eclipsed Eden, but that was in May when they were a riot of colour. I think that a regular visit through the seasons would be worthwhile, but the roads would need to improve.
Not been for a good few years myself...and before all the places we want to see...... Glad to be going in a quiet month
Morning all. Another cloudless sky, but with an overnight frost. New battery installed, so hoping that the jump leads are not needed. The sparrows that nest in the overhanging eaves of the house are feeling frisky. Lots of chirping going on, a sure sign that Spring is not too far away. Total have made big profits here in France with the cost of fuel at the pumps being so high. They are now in talks with the government about a price cut. It would appear to be on a voluntary basis by Total, and as yet nothing is certain. We will wait and see. Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. Bright blue sky, and only a light frost overnight. My Friday night football took in Chateauroux v Le Puy, and good on those who went and sat in very cold temperatures. Chateauroux battered the opposition, but the crossbar came into play, and three times the ball was kicked off the goal line, with the keeper well beaten. 80 minutes gone, and it was still 1-1, and you had to think it was going to be another disappointing evening. Then in the last 10 minutes they scored, and again, and again. 4-1 at the end, which looks like a simple win by the better side. The facts on paper do not tell the story sometimes. Have a good day everyone.
Taking the membrane off my newly acquired allotment and digging this morning.... .the dreaded couch grass.... and it tool me two hours to prepare and plant 6 fruit bushes..... so much to do... so little time!
Morning all. It looks like Spring is here for the moment, and it is slowly warming up outside. Despite all the warnings about power cuts, I have not seen that anywhere has suffered them. If you go to the top of the hill here, you can see across the thirty miles or so to the nuclear power station. A regular inspection 15 months ago revealed cracks in some of the pipework, so it was closed down until the welding work could be done. This week, steam has appeared from one of the two chimneys, so that will help to supply the grid with a little more power. Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. A glorious morning, and the temperature is expected to return to the sixties, that is if you still think in Fahrenheit terms. On my way to the baker I passed the wind turbines that were only just turning very slowly, and at ground level you cannot feel any breeze. The baker's wife was her usual cheerful self, and the bread she handed over was still warm. A good start for a Monday. Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. The sun is up, but only just starting to come from behind a barn to warm the sitting room up. No frost overnight, but a heavy dew, so the grass that needs cutting already will have to wait until it dries out a bit. Mme's little car needed new wiper blades that I bought in town. Feed her cars' registration number into the computer, and it tells you that you need three, all the same size. What it doesn't say is that you need an adaptor for the rear one as it has a different arm. It will have to wait until I go back at the end of the week, and just hope they have one. Have a good day everyone.
Morning all. A hazy sun up there, but not as bright as yesterday. Aching rather today as I had the Rotavator out yesterday afternoon, and it weighs a ton when taking it out of the shed and to the veggie plot. Last year I couldn't get it to start despite doing all the obvious things, and finished up getting a local engine mechanic in. With the aid of a can of "quick start" he finally managed to get it to go, and put the problem down to the fact that it still had petrol from the previous year in it. I ran it dry, put fresh fuel in it yesterday, gave it a squirt of "quick start", and it started first pull. I am sure this would apply to any petrol engine, so don't leave it in little used machines. Have a good day everyone.
I have a petrol strimmer that couldn’t restart, last year. The problem was old petrol decaying the petrol feed pipe, the leak of air in was then introducing too much air to the mixture. It would run with the choke on, effectively returning the mix to normal, but the choke kept automatically turning off. Proper pain. Pipe changed, works now.
