Morning all..... one hour south east of Frenchie we prepared for the storm, unplugged all the devices etc...and all we got was a few rumbles... .the vagaries of weather patterns and movements. But damp and wet today... and after attacking the garden yesterday....today we work indoors.... Have a good one......
Morning all. Mainly overcast with an occasional shower, but the sun does break through from time to time. Two days ago it was 32°C and today 16°C. After a night in bed with the fan going to keep cool, last night it was a case of pulling the duvet up to keep warm. Despite the changing weather long queues are being forecast on the autoroutes as people make for a long weekend away. Week-end de l'Ascension : Bison Futé prévoit de fortes difficultés sur les routes dès mercredi. Maybe it will turn out fine for them, and no huge hailstones that have broken windows and roofs. Have a good day everyone.
We took a walk up to the local village to recycle and buy some stamps this morning.... but everything closed as the village turned out for a 102 year olds funeral... very common in this region. Meanwhile my wife has picked up two ticks in the garden so we need to beware... Had tea with a Chelsea supporter yesterday who was not too impressed with their season. We have also identified an Indian restaurant in Limoges that we will consider trying....France not well known for Indian food... so will be worth a go....
If you travel the national roads rather than the auto routes, you will often see a yellow sign with Bison on it pointing to a large town or city. In the small town just down the road from here is one pointing you towards Paris although it is 250 kms away. It is a real time traffic information service, but also forecasts and signs alternative routes. Beware though, signs can suddenly stop, leaving you in the middle of a town that you do not know, and you will be better off then with a road map.
Morning all. After more rain overnight things are slowly drying up, and no more rain is forecast for the day. The price of fuel at the service station has dropped by €0.35 from the high point, which is a relief for us rural dwellers who have to rely on our own cars, but the legislation that brought about a reduction will expire, so now there is a debate going on about what will happen next. It is being discussed how to make it more targeted towards people outside of areas with public transport, but you could have a situation where some people living on boundaries could nip across to buy the cheaper fuel. Not at all sure how they will deal with this as the forecasts suggest the wholesale prices are likely to rise again. Have a good day everyone.
I doubt anything could be done about such a situation. Back in the days of 10:00pm pub closing in Australia, Queensland refused to implement daylight saving whereas NSW did implement it. That meant that residents on one side of the border could leave their locals at closing time, walk over the border and continue drinking for an extra hour. Nothing was ever done to stop it happening - unless you count extending opening hours to midnight.
Morning all. Grey currently, but the sun is expected to break through later. Public holiday today, and even the large supermarket in town shuts at 12.30 pm. Tomorrow is a pont day, making a nice long four day weekend for people. The little cottage down the road has English owners returned after three years, in fact there are quite a lot of English registered cars about, if not as many as there used to be. Off to get some bread, then gardening for the rest of the day. Have a good one everybody.
Walked to the little market in the next village that is run by young farmers...wild garlic pesto, fresh farm cheese, unpasteurized milk, farm bread, and a box of bio veg...walk home and red wine and cheese outside as the sun goes down.... Next door neighbour comes out to wash his car and we jokingly ( red wine influenced) say can you do our car windows.... and lo and behold he obliges!
Morning all. Overcast but dry, so maybe after the weekly shop I will get back to my gardening. Still a long way to go before I get on top of it again, but every little done gives one a bit of encouragement. I noticed that my loganberries are full of fruit, so this year I must net them again rather than let the birds have all of them. Have a good day whatever you are planning.
Fancy free tickets for all Watford home and away games? Here is your chance. https://careers.newsquest.co.uk/job...m_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic
Morning all. The sun is up, there is a blue sky and the météo says to expect a temperature of 22°C. Perfect for being outside, and no football to fit in. The special offer in the supermarket cave was for 5 litres of organic red wine for €8.95. Never tried it previously, but it was speeding off the shelves, so guess it cannot be too bad. No chemicals allowed anywhere near the vines it says, so it will be interesting to see if the taste is any different. As everyday plonk it should do nicely at that price. Have a good day everyone.
That looks a great buy...let us know if the taste is OK...... the village next to us has just opened a microbrewery....and he opened up just for me this morning to buy a few bottles.......going to get a licence to have a little bar there....will be very popular...and 15 minutes stroll from us...interesting to see after the great rural decline in the last century younger people are now moving back into the rural villages of France and starting up small businesses
Morning all. A lovely sunny morning with a bit of a breeze. Just right to be out and about. Managed to do quite a lot yesterday without a stoppage for a Watford game. Using my fingers I have been doing some calculations to see what going back to imperial measures would look like. There were 12 pence to a shilling and 20 shillings to a pound. For example: £1.88p (a litre of petrol) would become £1/17 /7d. That's £8/7/5d a gallon. That would be fun outside your local filling station. When I was first married a local petrol station would have a promotion on sometimes with four gallons for a pound, and you would get green shield stamps as well. Going back to those prices would be a good thing. Have a great day everyone.
Morning all. Bright but not really very warm as yet. Someone, probably a hunter, had been in my fields and left behind one of those small green beer bottles. Rather than leave it there, I brought it home to recycle. It was full of soil and decaying leaves, so must have been there for sometime. As I washed it out, a stench started to fill the room, which was truly awful. Eventually a deceased vole emerged from the bottom of the bottle. Not a pretty sight, and it took some time with the doors and windows open to get rid of the smell. People really should not leave glass bottles around the countryside as it can be the cause of fire, and vast damage done. Hope you all have a good day.
Afternoon all. Currently up on the Clyde near Helensburgh. Submarine centre unexpectedly cancelled so Geilston Gardens, erm, subbed in. We've heard that the weather has been pretty miserable up here but now it's about 13°C and cloudy. (Sunny day when we arrived at Loch Long yesterday). Not worth a long trip out but definitely worth an hour or so if you're here. Isle of Arran tomorrow, day in Glasgow Wednesday.
Painting all the shutters at the back of the house at the mo. Weather gets in and has to be done every three or four years...the work is compounded by the fact that the paint manufacturers have changed the colours of their paints so all has to be done .....two coats
