The cancellation has now basically been forced on him - he just contacted me to say his flatmate has caught Covid & he now has to get tested and probably self-isolate. I'm not sure how to break either bit of news to my wife when she gets home from work this evening...
I am seething. Took Mme to have her final injection at the hospital and returned to find a message from La Poste to say that she should have collected customs duty from me when she delivered our Christmas presents from our daughter. Included in the parcel are presents for our granddaughters, so the total value is £236. Customs duty for me to pay is €100. Thank you Brexit.

Morning all. Cold and frosty again, but it is supposed to warm up tomorrow. My rage over having to pay €100 to receive my Christmas presents has not subsided. My thoughts about certain politicians and what I would like to do to them is getting worse if anything. Perhaps I should ask if they have any donors who would like to reimburse me. So many Brexit issues... but the Govt clearly dont care on iota....sadly all managed by a clown whose Brexit lead has even resigned.. althoight that may well prove to be a good thing...as Truss as a Remainer and the EU are asking from some rapprochement with the new lead...
Morning all. Certainly warmer, no frost, but sunny and a strong wind blowing from the south. All shut up for the night yesterday evening, wood burner blasting away, when there was a knock on the front door. It was a neighbour who is a member of the council delivering two Christmas hampers. Two bottles of wine in each, one red and one white, chocolates, biscuits, nuts, pates, chicken in white sauce, and a packet of wild flower seeds to scatter in the garden or fields. This is to replace the commune dinner that is put on for the over 60's that did not happen last year either. Nice to know that we are a part of the community and not outsiders. Oh, goodness, I’m sorry. It isn’t the same, I know, but FaceTime makes it a bit easier to bear I hope. It’s certainly an improvement on how things used to be. I remember spending one Christmas away from my family, for work reasons, when I was in my early twenties. Just a phone call in those days.
