    Last night I had the pleasure of watching my three grand daughters performing on stage in the school end of term spectacular. The eldest who is 10 had a speaking part and it was no problem for her at all.

    She didn't start at the French school until she was seven and a half, so in two and a half years she has mastered the spoken language. She still has problems with the "le" and "la", but she went to school in England where such things are unknown. It is normal with adults who speak very good French to still hear the English accent, but in her case there is little or none.

    If only it was as easy for us older ones. :(

    I see that the draw for the first qualifying round of the FA Cup has provided some potential derbies. FC United of Manchester could play Maine Road; Billingham Synthonia could play Billingham Town; and Aylesbury play Aylesbury United in a preliminary round.
