It gave me what I do. I have a recollection of doing a similar test years ago and ended up with similar results! I don't think I pull up any trees so as to speak but I am competent in my job to say the least.

Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford has been awarded an MBE for services to vulnerable children in the UK during the coronavirus pandemic. <applause>

I think that he really deserves the acknowledgement of the work he put in to raise awareness of the way that some families struggle in the best of times. I do not buy into the notion that he did it to raise his own profile.

That notion would no doubt be right wing mutterings. Can imagine dePiffle spraying his cornflakes across the table at the news.

Morning all. Overcast but dry and some sunshine expected later. Talking to my daughter in law last night who is an English teacher at a secondary school in Bradford. Life is very difficult with all of the restrictions on what they can and cannot do, made worse by the fact that the school is falling apart. Holes in ceilings where the rain has come in, rats in toilets, and mouse droppings that have to be cleaned up every day. The trust that runs it seems to have given up the fight to make money, so she hopes that the new trust that has bought it will at least make the buildings better. The small primary school that my granddaughters attended here was threatened with closure earlier in the year because of a falling number of children, but remains open since a group of parents removed their offspring from a school twenty miles away and enrolled them there. The buildings are old, but kept in good order by a group of dads who give of their time. The community spirit lives on. Have a good day whatever you are doing. <ok>

His caviar - and spraying it all over his wife/carer. I can't imagine him eating pleb food, just as I can't imagine him feeding himself.

No doubt it's one of those buildings that originally were simply handed over virtually free-of-charge by Michael Gove too?

I am not certain about that, but it sounds about par for the course. It is grossly unfair to pupils and staff to be in buildings like that. The staff turnover has been dreadful with new teachers brought in straight from training college, cheaper that way of course, but not many stay for a whole school year. I am not sure quite what effect it will have on children growing up in what is a very deprived area anyway, but to be in surroundings such as these, with little time to get to know a teacher is not the route to providing a good education.

Maybe not applicable to this school either, but, thanks to a subscription to a professional journal, I do remember being bombarded with ads for teaching positions in the north of England. Many of them in free schools were for non-qualified teachers - one that sticks in my mind was for a school in Leeds that was looking for Maths teachers. Contracts for term time only, the only requirements stipulated were a GCSE in Maths - this to teach up to GCSE level. Mind blowing really.

Morning all. Very grey and quite chilly today. It is not one of those days when you feel like dashing outside to get on with the countless jobs you could be doing. Many of the local gardeners are winding down now although there are still rows of salad and tomatoes with red fruits, but no leaves. There are many plants in the hedgerows with colourful berries that will provide for the birds as we move into the colder days. There are also mushrooms appearing along the lanes since we had the rains return, although I am far from sure which ones are safe to eat. All signs that the seasons are changing. Have a good day whatever you will do. <ok>

Just to get away from the hearing issue - I have a better tale to tell. 4 years ago I had the cornea implants as cataracts had just started. Anyway, after 3 years or so, one eye seemed blurry. My optician said it was 'dry eye' and told me to blink harder. No really. After several months, no improvement. She sold me some drops. Result - nuffink, zero, nix, nul points. Went back again, whereupon she diagnosed a frosted capsule. (And the first time ??) My other eye was working overtime. (Probably up to Premier league standard). Had the laser treatment last week. Result - astonishing. I can now see a wren at 1000 yards (well nearly). Only a year wasted, and the second eye will be done next week as it is clearly (haha) blurry now that it has a better reference. Best of all I don't need my glasses to read the PC screen screen.

Good day all. Been to the recycling centre with a load of cardboard boxes and to collect my years supply of rubbish and recycling bags. The rubbish bags, which we haven't run out of yet, but thought I would collect while there, are the small 25 litre ones not the grand 50 litre ones that I could have had. For a two person household you are given 100 bags per year, but for us they last for more than two years. As for the recycling bags they are large, and despite using them fully, I now have enough to set up a market stall.
On another topic I see that parts of the department are now reverting to the 90 km/h speed limit, while others will stay on the 80 km/h. This seems daft as we really will not know where we are unless signs appear like mushrooms after the rain. I can see the fines rising in number, but maybe that is the idea. Have good day one and all. <ok>

Morning all. Damp outside, and the man from the météo suggests that it will a day of showers with occasional glimpses of the sun. I have the job of putting up shelves now that Mme has cleared out her store cupboard enough to give me some space. She came across her great grandfather's pocket watch which when new must have been a really quite expensive timepiece. She spent the evening with a magnifying glass and her book of hallmarks trying to work out when and where it was made. I don't think she knows for certain as some marks are very similar. I had better get on as she has told me it will only take half a day to put the shelves up. I wonder how many coffee breaks are included in that calculation? Have a good day whatever you are doing. <ok>

Morning all. Grey and damp as the showers keep coming. All very quiet here today, just the small white vans beloved by the local farmers going past from time to time. There was a news item in the paper about a young wild boar that had taken to living alongside a herd of cows. The pictures of it happily grazing with them showed that it has been accepted as one of their own, and where they go it follows. Quite what will happen to it once it is fully grown we do not know. Have a good day whatever the weather. <ok>

It is crazy. I sometimes wonder how much effort estate agents put in, especially during the 'good times'. I recently had difficulty in finding an item I needed and resorted to Facebook's Marketplace - was totally gobsmacked at the number of houses being advertised there. One way of saving on agent's fees I suppose.

I have got a LOT on at work, which is fine.

Can anyone do a match thread for Friday though? Ta.
