Don't blame the stewards , change the rules . Just Jazz makes a good point . Have a set group of stewards to go to each race . IMHO it was becoming a bit of a Jolly for some ex drivers ….
Yeah definitely a set group of stewards and more transparency would solve a lot of the problems and criticism.
Except they constantly play favourites and ignore the rules arbitrarily, especially when it comes to 'squeezing'. how many penalties did Lewis get in Bahain 2014 when, lap after lap, he pushed Rosberg off the track? How many times has Max been punished for weaving and 'squeezing' so much he's swiped people at 200+mph? the reasons are as clear, they're the same reasons as penalty decisions at Old Trafford. It's not the crime, it's who the criminal is that decides what action will be taken
I can see merit in both permanent and 'guest' stewards. i.e. if they are permanent then any bias they have will have an impact on every decision through the year but they could provide consistent rulings. The guest stewards can only influence their bias on the race they are ruling on. More transparency I do like. Not that it may help as it would depend on how they presented the info. You would think that Liberty would be interested in promoting transparency, then again it's the FIA that look after the rules....
An excellent appraisal by all three of these guys. Unemotional and objective. Although I think it a pity the penalty occurred, I agree with their conclusions. It's also worth emphasising what a difficult job the stewards have and that they will always come under fire from some quarters. Perhaps they should be applauded for such an analytical approach in investigating the evidence, regardless of outcome, knowing the unpopularity of a victory not matching crossing the finishing line first and that they would likely face a red hot spotlight.
That is a fair point ( on some occasions ) . How do you think we can resolve it totally ? I don't think we can . We can just try and make the best of a bad & Difficult situation . Having a group of people with an ability to learn from each other over time is , imho , at least a good starting point .
Stewards won't get praise , like ref's in football , umpires in cricket . They all get slagged off , but ask the drivers etc if they would swap and I bet its a big fat no ! Esp if you are Mike Gatting
If Vettel had smashed into Hamilton and they both went out then would stewards have penalised him for the next race? Or would they see it as a racing mistake
Hamilton didn't quite do enough to actually overtake Vettel did he, so in reality he got given the win even though he wasn't quite up for it, Vettel behaved like the spoilt child he is, pure motor racing incident, wont be the last
Please don't make any such suggestion within earshot of Bernie Ecclestone. I'm sure he'd capitalise on the chance to regain some influence whilst selling the idea for royalties from every voter via some trumped-up 'have your say and pay for your vote' scheme… [Ha! Talk of the devil, eh, Ernie Becc. Welcome back!]
F1 is a distraction and relaxation from the PM debate....wish I could go on holiday for the next month. Cosicave said it might be an Epic race, certainly it has everyone giving opinion. 8 pages of post race analysis.
Well, I expected Vettel to lead for most of the race, and that he might be hunted down by Hamilton; but what transpired wasn't quite what I had in mind …
There wasnt much more lewis could have done without crashing into vettel then both would have been out. He would have overtaken for sure if vettel didn't cut him off. He had the run on vettel then had to brake suddenly to avoid a crash.
How much of a breath of fresh air was Jenson Button this weekend? Made the whole Sky F1 team look like absolute numpties. Called it as he saw it, added great perspective and knowledge, and didn’t shy away from telling us things that he thinks could be improved in F1. I also though he brought the best out of Brundle, who I think gets dragged into some nonsense conversation by Crofty a lot nowadays during commentary. Brundle was back to his best analysing the cars with Jenson on Friday practice trackside and then really nailing the Vettel Hamilton incident post race. They make a great team and it’s a shame we don’t see more of them together. Brundle could do with two great lead commentators and presenters to really relish the task again.
None of us had, like you I thought we had a mixed up grid that was going to give us something different. But Seb did not disappoint when it comes to providing a moment. He seems to freeze when he is in a dual with Lewis and then messes up. Psychological issue I guess.
Interesting ( if true ) . Sadly , it wouldn't surprise me . https://www.racefans.net/2019/06/10/ferrari-forgot-to-tell-leclerc-about-vettels-penalty/
