Rats can be a bloody nightmare. Grew up in a cottage and we had them every other month, no obvious signs of entry and the only option was putting poison down. Then we'd end up with a house full of bluebottles and a lovely smell of rot. Our cats were pretty good at killing them but not when they were in the loft or wall cavities.

Will try a few different things, I think I had those humane traps in the past, but hard to kill the feckers with those. No way was going to let them loose.
