Yeah id be the same. But I think 99% of the time it would be ****ing boring living in a place like Kansas or Nebraska, where it’s just flat and all you can see are corn and maize fields for hundreds of miles.

It’s no wonder those mad ****s go chasing Tornados tbh coz there’s probs not a lot else that happens there lol

Best storm I've been in was in Guatamala in the late 90's. Sky turned dark purple like one of those death metal album covers lol. Then the lightning came, forking all over the sky, then came the rain. Like ****in Biblical amounts of rain, it was so intense that you couldn't hear the person next to you speak because it was so loud.

I was up in the jungle after going to some hippy festival and there was so much rain and mud washing down the hills I thought it was going to sweep me away at one point. Remember trying to cross a rope bridge to get away from the river that was bursting it banks and then thinking it was a bad idea, so I just climbed up higher into the jungle and waited it out.

Crazy thing was that as quickly as it came, it then just stopped, the sun came out and about half an hour later it was like it never even happened.

Back when I was in Pakistan we would go and stand on the flat roof and watch the dust storms from miles building up and heading towards the village…was amazing like a big black evil thing…animals going a bit crazy, women running about collecting their pots n pans….the whole landscape would go a weird white brightness until it approached then it would go dark gloomy grey…mad ****

Out on patrol with the dog on an airbase in East Anglia, bad night then lightning hit the runway and just travelled down the length of it, I was pretty close. I immediately went indoors.

I love **** like that. On this recent trip in the US I sat watching dust devils whirling around in the desert in Utah, some of them get big enough to grab a few random items from the floor and spin them around in their vortex. I drove through a dust storm in Morocco once, it was scary as **** so I pulled over. Even with windows closed I still ended up with dust and sand up my nostrils, in my eyes and in my ears.

A lot of hurricanes run out of steam by the time they hit land, there is a reason for that - and a quick google says: The roughness of the land terrain increases friction, but more critical, once over land, the system is cut off from its heat and moisture sources. Sustained winds in a hurricane will decrease at a relatively constant rate (approximately half the wind speed in the first 24 hours).

But the authorities can't run that risk with a population of 400k (Tampa) in it's suspected path for landfall.

    Thanks. Just for you brb.

Went to basically the most commercial part of hk today. Between the two sides of the river is where the commercial and finance districts are:

Both loads of skyscrapers and mountains.

Little bit further down bruce lee and the stuff on the left is loads of residential buildings

Brilliant Bobby, nice little travellers guide going on here.

The 7 - Eleven store sign made me smile, bloody Americans lol. Then the palm trees, even outside the mosque as if you are riding the Las Vegas strip.

Think you said you were going to Beijing as well, would love to see any pictures from there, any structual stuff such as temple of heaven or forbidden garden etc.

    Top stuff mate.

Did an overnight stay in HK in about 2006. Coming back from a two week stay in Guangzhou prototyping some parts. First experience of floodlit golf in China and then hit a couple of baskets of balls at a range in the city. Was like coming back to England, first bar we hit was Carlsberg and they had HP on the tables for anyone having food. One of the US carriers was in town, so loads of US sailors dressed like Fred Durst being escorted around.

your pics are 100 times better than mine!

I've not done much travelling in the east. Poland is as far east as I've been. Done loads in Europe, North Africa and the Americas from Vancouver down to Venezuela.

I want to take my daughter to Japan in the next few years. That's not going to be a cheap trip, so I'm starting a fund this christmas and will start to put money aside for it.
