Out again tonight for my mates daughters 18th. The place is okay and the food a bit average. Won't be there late.
Launceston is a nice town. And you’re quite close to Bodmin moor for some decent stomps if you make it down west. Tap me up and we’ll have a pint
This anti tourism is interesting, I completely get the reasons for the protests with locals struggling with rental prices and the strain on resources. From a traveler point of view you can tell that there are simply too many people and it's affecting the holiday mood which is why I decided on a driving holiday and all going well we're going to keep doing that for a few years. That way we're in control of where we go and can avoid heavily populated areas and relax.
I think what is also pissing them off is as the same problem in this country airbnb's, because it drives up rental prices, and leads to a shortage of homes for local people, I totally get it. I think they could control tourism numbers better, if they took away the temporary let properties and forced people back into hotels in the busiest areas, then once the hotels are full that's your lot, and a more controlled market. Down to local planners if they have too many hotels, can't blame tourists fot that.
From what I see sometimes, a lot of the 'English' problem has been dealt with in some Spanish areas, regarding behaviours, which is a good thing. Just need there government to sort the rental market out and then you control numbers better. Also time restrictions on bars, if you don't make places party islands then the numbers will drop and the party goers will look and go elsewhere. Also controls on cruise ships going into some areas. It's all doable as long as they are willing to accept the financial loses that come with that.
The locals seem happy with these strips where all the Brits abroad can go en masse but there's certainly a different vibe in Spain and The Canaries in recent years where it's not so welcoming. I've been to Barcelona, Mallorca and Tenerife in recent years I did not really enjoy the islands and that was down to the locals and then the Brits on the piss. I won't go back to Spain for a long time.
Launceston has a train station, but I think it’s on a branch line from the mainline from PZ. Gimme a shout when you’re down this way fella as I’m often up and down the county for different events
FFS ... it's just potato, butter and, if you wanna go posh, cream ... your brother needs a serious talking to ..
I don’t think it’s so much the volume of people as the scarcity of property now Airbnb has taken over the world. Similar here in Cornwall and the like where prices have gone nuts and locals are priced out. Maybe different with a family especially in terms of cost but I much prefer a hotel. Leave the place in an absolute state, jizz on what you want and the place is spotless when you get back in.
