Yup. One of the things I have learned in life, if government want to invoke change, it's generally done through price. We saw it with cigarettes, we saw it with beer through public houses, we will see it in the future with brands such as coca cola (sugar tax), and we will see it through our cars at the pumps. The next stage will be congestion charges into our towns or designated routes that don't currently have them, where petrol/diesel vehicles will either be charged or they will be banned from certain areas at certain times, so say for example only allow electric cars into selected zones at weekends. A world crisis such as Russia is often a sneaky way a government can add value to it's plans, without actually saying so, much like covid added value to going cashless.

I've managed to get away with it for my last one as it was in the department I'm in so just did it in the office. This is a different Trust though so completely new.

    Would enjoy a virtual interview

Gives you so much control and power over the proceedings.

To be able to display disgust at the interviewee by closing your laptop says so much.

I don't go to be interviewed...I'm interviewing them...so very helpful imo

I was reading the local Kent rag earlier, it was interesting to note a dispute that has broken out in Dover regarding cars. There is some new housing development, with something like 45 flats, but only 8 parking spaces for cars. Well considering the way we appear to be moving forward, will they also start to force people out of cars, dependent on their social ability to pay ie if you can't pay for your own land to park with an installed charging point, tough - afterall the cars will need to go somewhere, yet I thought new developements had to have charging points installed, yet no one is even addressing the issue.

The infrastructure is woefully behind the Govt's 'ambition' to go all electric, and they are leaving it up to a handful of developers and private motor companies to put it all in place. There's not even any consistency with the type of charger used, so I don't see how they are going to meet any sort of target with this. Petrol and Diesel cars are supposed to be going out of production by 2030, but unless there's a massive step up in both the electric infrastructure as well as Govt grants to help people to switch to EVs, then all it's going to do is massively spike the used car market and prices there will rocket too, because barely anybody can afford to drop £50k on a new EV

As I say, I still think Hydrogen might be the future instead of Electric. I know the storage and transportation of Hydrogen is currently problematic. But it's not an insurmountable problem, and it's one that will get easier. The basic premise of filling up your car with a liquid at a station, is what we already do, so the culture shift isn't needed and the petrol stations and tanker networks are already in place, so no need to build hundreds of thousands of charge points either. I think it might be this relative ease of transitioning from oil based fuels to liquid hydrogen that will push it ahead of electric in the end.

I think it’s simpler than that. COVID put a huge great dent in the profits that these oil firms make. I think it was inevitable that they would try to claw it back.
