ah very nice indeed ! having a short break up on exmoor this week. safe travels mate and have a great time
Cheers mate ,you too. Used to spend a lot of time around Exmoor, we did the Jurrasic bit last year,it's a day out but no fossils, it's not Dorset. You can wave across the water to Luv from there though.
Yep had a few days up on the Jurrasic Coast in Feb. Found some brilliant fossils. Pyrite ammonites and the fossilised beak of some prehistoric squid type creature Here on Exmoor with the fam and my old dear. Just been pootling about so far, villages ,shops, pubs. Gonna leave the old dear at the cottage tomorrow and get up on the moors and do some proper walking
Im actually about 5 miles from challacombe right now at exmoor zoo and we’re all ready for some lunch. Will go and check it out. Thanks for the tip
Yeah, it's a bit Slaughtered Lamb type place so doubt it's open all day. Very nice traditional village pub with excellent beer and good food. Worth the wait or a revisit if you get the chance.
They were doing lunch until 2:30. I missed them by 10 mins. Had an insubstantial sandwich from a tea room at simonsbath, and kept thinking about the gourmet feast I’d just missed out on The missus wants to go swimming at that Pinkery lake place which is nearby. So we’ll probs go for a hike round there and then drop down to that pub Will report back
I know this place as worked down there on the nearby reservoir - Whistlandpound. Had been laid off during last recession so freelanced as a civils manager for Balfour Beatty for a year or so. We built a new spillway for the reservoir. I stayed in a caravan, in a barn, on a nearby farm. Couldn't afford to waste money on a B&B all week! That pub, and going down to Barnstaple to play squash, was my solace. Nice little walk round the reservoir if you want to work up a bit of an appetite.
