Watched BBC Iplayer late last night, The Planets, 1 of 3, hour long documentarys. the first one titled 'The Godfather: Jupiter' - Worth a watch if you want to know how the Earth and the other inner planets were formed, and how we would never of existed, if it hadn't of been for Jupiter and how it still protects us, then Saturn eventually pulling it (Jupiter) back beyond the asteroid belt. The theory being, Ceres should have been the mother of all planets, but instead was doomed to life in the asteroid belt.
