    Early Christians didn't celebrate it either.

    It was a Roman Emperor Constantine, who celebrated Sol Invictus. Another 'birth of the sun' story at the winter solstice. That eventually got incorporated into early christian doctrine as the 'birth of the son' around 21st-25th Dec.
