Can’t say I’ve seen that but there’s a series on YouTube, think it’s called man at arms, sounds similar to what you described but none of it’s for prizes and all the weapons/ tools they make are from popular tv shows or games. Very skilled craft.

 

This one has them making famous historical blades mainly. But many of them are used in games anyways.
4 guys start off forging a simple blade with no handle.
Judges do like strength tests and ****.

Two lads just made viking swords and they shot guns and split bullets on them
