I suggest they transport all the chavs, smack-heads, drunks etc from out of the city centre across the bridge to the other side then close it pdq.
right , i went over this new bridge today (had to pick up a packet from the post office - thats another story , but just to say our postal service is a **** stain , im not sure whos to blame but they dont attempt to ring the bell they dont have time !!!) anyway ... the bridge itself looks quite nice and seems fitted with decent enough materials ...Also the walk from Scale lne is quite nice too (tho there were strongbow drinkers on one bench ffs!! ) Once you cross the bridge , quite literally once you are past the gap , the tarmac is poor , the accompanying brickwork / masonry is 3rd rate , the lanscaping is non existant , the whole easter end of this walk is a rushed eyesore . That said it leads to absolutely nowhere this bridge , maybe its a good idea to remove all hope for the unknowing traveller Such a shame !
The owner of Lion & Key (Dirty nellies) is experiencing a great increase in trade as the bridge goes from next door. All the royal mail workers use it as a stop off point after work, it looks really nice actually, the other side is now being developed as a short stay car park as a temporary measure, so can park near the Premier Inn and a quite stroll across the bridge straight into the old town.
That's not a bad idea, an even better one would be to make it a free car park, but I suspect that won't be the case?
Well Oriel House is the reason for the Strongbow bench drinkers, you'd think they'd move it to a dead part of the city centre, rather than keeping it in an area they're trying to regenerate and bring tourists to. As for the landscaping on the East Bank - like the car park, it's temporary as it is hoped an upturn in the economy will spark development on the East bank - no point spending loads on something they hope will be dug back up.
Is the sailmakers arms still open on high street? That was always my favourite boozer in hull. Fantastic place
Nice piece on the bridge in yesterdays Guardian... http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2013/jul/28/scale-lane-bridge-hull-review
I was in Sailmakers AND Black Boy AND Lion & Key on Saturday night. Just saying. Good pubs, the little walk way up to the bridge is pretty...just needs something on t'other side.
It is indeed, great place, like the other pubs in that area, i never see too many people around there which is a shame as it's the sort of pubs that are heaving in liverpool/glasgow
A couple of pics I took the first time I crossed the bridge the other week: please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
I was surprised by the numbers using it to be honest, considering there is no real reason to cross it from the West bank. It links The Deep and Victoria Dock Village to the old town a lot better though.
Dazzar, you seem to know a bit about what's going on development-wise in Hull. So, as a Marina resident, I was wondering if there are any plans for one of the old dock things next to the walkway towards The Deep (on the marina side). It's been flushed out of water to reveal a deep....hole. It obviously served some purpose years I go, I'm no expert so I don't know what. There's some land to the left of it too, right next to some offices. It's looked like it's been readied for something, but nothing's happened. Are there plans for it? Thanks.
