Interesting. And here was me thinking that he wasn't setting the heather alight because he hadn't scored many in L2 ..... http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/12/1...llik-wilks-another-new-contract-to-wa/page/1/
What I can't get my head around is that in days gone by, when football was a much more routinely physical game than it is now, good players were expected to sink or swim in the first team at 17-18 and coped excellently - see George Best, Wee Billy, Lorimer & so on. More recently, I remember Alan Smith kicking lumps out of Phil Thompson on his debut at 17. So how come players at 18/19 nowadays are too young to do a job and need to be "protected"? Get them in there and toughen them up.

Prolly starts as kids getting driven to school in a Chelsea Tractor by over-protective parents. We woke to find the pretty ice patterns on the inside of our bedroom window, then walked to school, over a mile each way, every day from the ages of 5-18. Short trousers until high school at 12. Feckin' freezin' winters too, unlike the mild weather we seem to get now. In 1964, we moved to the new town of Cumbernauld, as part of the 'overspill' move out of Glasgow. We moved in March. There was a lot of snow. A lot. When it cleared in May - yes, May!, we found a railway sleeper in the back garden! Takes a fair bit of bad weather to keep that covered for a couple of months! I had permanent red legs - from the sun in the summer, and the cold in the winter. Can't imagine little Rufus encountering that, far less being able to cope with it. Proper 'ard then!
Yes, or continue to lose them to teams while we feck about in the championship on our long term plan.
