I lived in the north east in the 80's. As a point of clarification, I'd just like to add that it's not just the Yorkshiremen and the scots that hated her. We did too. Firstly Antonnuci was usually played as an attacking winger, but back home he became a cult figure because of the way he scored goals playing in a 4-4-2. If there's no room for politics, why are the club imposing this requirement? This very action is bringing politics into football. There is no need for it. No other employer insists on a poppy being worn. It cannot be enforced legally. Simple solution - the clubs shouldn't do it.
