You mean he already had that excuse ready for when he made the promise?

What about the 2nd or 3rd time he made the same noises AFTER renegotiating terms with GFH

Second time with the sale of Ross

Third time when he was coming back from his ban

Even I missed this one, a 4th time?

just had a quick look ristac, think the first and second occasions are the same first time,3rd was Andrew Umbers not Cellino, and 4th is just saying its still on his agenda.

Im sure it is still on his agenda. I believe Cellino believes he will eventually buy the ground and guide us to the pl. He didnt buy the club to remain a mid table championship team forever. He may be misguided though in thinking it would be an easier or cheaper job than its proving to be, that doesnt mean he hasnt the right intentions though whereas as Bates never had any interest in winning promotion

Tomlin is a very good player at this level.

But would still want 8 million for Cook.

I would be more inclined to ask for 3-5 million plus Ryan Fraser and Lee Tomlin

He's a midfielder/Striker can hopefully play him at CM. The fact we're supposedly interested in 4 other forward players show that if we do get him, we won't be playing him in a forward role. IMO

I agree with you on Tomlin, although he always looks like he struggles with his weight to me?? This is a difficult one for me, if we get Tomlin & cash and we re-invest in players like Bridcutt etc, I think you could build a side that could mount a challenge i.e. proven Championship quality and around the mid twenties age group. Having the likes of Byram & Cook is all very well if we add to them with quality but we really don't seem to and are not looking like mounting a challenge with the youngsters in our side. Sure Cook may go on to play for England but he won't wait at Elland Road 7 or 8 years to achieve it while playing in the Championship.

I remember the young side with the likes of Irwin and Linighan and you could see we were close and they were good but we needed to go up more than wait for the youngsters to fully develop and, ultimately, it was a slightly older, more experienced and quality type of player that Wilko achieved it with blended in with the very best youngsters (Speed & Batty). We've all known for ages Byram would be gone, Cook only signed a two year contract not a five year deal so he could stick or twist sooner rather than later. If we could just look 12 or 24 months ahead and make a real effort to keep Taylor, Coyle and maybe others that haven't broken through yet and spend the Byram and Cook money on more Bridcutt quality players we may just do it again.

You look at the likes of Keogh and Martin at Derby, Friend at Boro etc and you know you will get close with that ilk of player. I am not saying these are players we can buy now, but we should have been competing for these when they leave teams like Coventry. I think the three combined cost their current teams less than a million so, if we are serious and we have to sell the likes of Byram so be it, but it is what happens with that money afterwards that is really going to matter.

And another, Michael Morrison - age 27, Centre Back, nearly 10 years league experience gone to Birmingham from Charlton for next to nothing but would have been a top signing for us - they are out there and don't cost fortunes if you accept there is a signing on fee and they want decent wages (I am guessing BCFC picked Morrison up for peanuts and don't pay him that much!).

As Charlton have the worst defence in the league, what makes you think he's any good.
