Rotherham have slammed the ‘despicable’ Millwall supporters responsible for the disgraceful scenes of violence at their Championship fixture on Saturday.
Rotherham on Monday issued a furious statement, accusing elements of the Millwall support of plotting to cause trouble, with match commander Ch Supt Jason Harwin separately describing the violence as ‘some of the worst we've seen in South Yorkshire for a number of years’.
Rotherham’s statement read: 'We were aware that a section of Millwall supporters were planning on attending this game intent on causing disorder.
‘Despite the extra resources deployed, this group made numerous attempts to seek disorder throughout the afternoon resulting in the despicable scenes towards the end of the match.
'Rotherham United are angered and upset at the unprecedented level of violent behaviour of some sections of the Millwall supporters inside and outside of the stadium.
