Re subs. If he made one and they still scored two you'd all be lambasting him for changing a winning formula. The first goal was a lack of closing down but a great strike. The second was god awful marking, would an instantaneous defensive sub made in the less than 2 minutes it took them to equalise have stopped either? Who knows. If the players aren't looking committed its the hock's fault. If they 'try too hard' and go over the top like murphy it's the hock's fault. I am concerned that this passing game we're supposed to be developing isn't happening. Formation? Players? Manager? Probably a combination. I don't see guys who kill the ball with their first touch or guys making themselves available to receive the pass. We always look more hurried on the ball than the opposition. Same under warnock, same under mcd.
I see Fabian Delph called up for England. How does that make you feel? In my case: - very pleased for the lad - a bit worried for England as he's good but hardly world class - a bit sick at the "what might have been " if Bates had not sold off the silver and replaced it with 35 year old journeymen
milky, obvious substitution was Taylor for Warnock really ... Warnock had become static in his own half and failed to get beyond the halfway line, thus allowing their right back the liberty of pushing up as far as he wanted ... with Taylor we would have had the option of fresh legs squeezing their right flank and creating pressure, whilst also putting crosses in for Smith ... now, that was but one of a number of errors Hock made, and that cost us, because he can't see the fcuking obvious most of the time and we will continue to suffer ... we have the players, he's just getting it wrong far too consistently now ... there's not a single game so far where he hasn't got it right, including Boro thanks to them being cautious, so what is going to change?
The thing that struck me was the complete lack of movement. Everyone just stood in position and passed it to each other. It didn't take Bradford long to realise that if they just closed the player with the ball down, sooner or later they'd get the ball back. This is obviously the coaches fault - he's telling them to go to those positions. The only team there was any movement and interaction we actually scored.
Billy. Taylor for warnock. If warnock was cramping (which seemed to be the case) or carrying a knock, then yeh I'll buy that. But its like for like, and if he'd made that switch and they scored, he'd get criticised for taking off an experienced defender and bringing on a 'kid' at a key point in the game. McDermott sent us out playing hoofball in the hope McCormack would nick us a goal, never made any substitutions whilst we were outplayed every week, but because we rode our luck in the first half of last season no one gave a monkey's. I don't argue that the hock is uninspiring but this isn't all down to him. Our midfield isn't up to it. We're not lions led by donkey's we're donkey's led by donkeys. Let's hope sloth and adryan if he signs can make a difference.
Agree on the movement. They get rid of the ball and then stop, but Austin, Murphy and tonge have always done that. I'd doubt that they're being asked to not find space, I suspect they just don't have the capacity to do it. Probably they lack the self believe too... It doesn't look like anyone wAnts the ball. The hock has to take responsibility for that but I doubt he's asking them to pretend the ball is a hot potato.
Afternoon all. Nothing to say about tactics, selection, result, performance or Hockaday that hasn't already been said. I was hoping to hear news today that he has gone and that we had signed Adryan but sadly not.
milky think you missed my point about "movement" in suggesting Taylor for Warnock and getting over the halfway line ... also, Warnock fell over and brought down Cooper for their winner if you really want me to split hairs
don't think i missed your point billy, presume you think warnock was struggling hence why he wasn't getting forward? in which case i said he should have made the change. Or do you just see taylor as a more attack minded player? If we're splitting hairs, warnock slipped, but didn't bring down cooper. Pearce was on hanson for most of the game, but no-one picked him up for the second. He had a head start on warnock who slipped (but shouldn't have been his man anyway). Cooper who should have picked him up was ball watching. Again. A dangerous habit for a centre half and one we could do with him snapping out of.
.... yes. Bickering amongst ourselves as to to which of our players was most useless, whether our coach is wholly to blame etc. Be nice to be in a position where we could pick on the one player who had a stinker wouldn't it.
I think it's a reflection on our clueless coach. A coach who has tactical nous at this level and above, someone like Steve Clarke for example, would have sent out a young, exciting team, gone for the jugular from the off, and told them not to go flying into rash tackles. Leeds would have had the game sewn up by half time
No truth at all, it was a lot of seats. Suprised it hadn't made the news there were quite a few incidents last night. Having said that the police numbers indicated that most of the issues were happening in the home end.
