It's strange, back end of last season and in pre-season Byram looked like a natural winger - since the season started, he's been dire. Not really his fault if he doesn't feel comfortable there, but it puts us right back to square one in the winger conundrum. I reckon we still need another LB (if only to push Taylor), a CB to partner Bamba, an experienced head in the midfield (already shown my support for Barton but anyone of his ilk would be perfect), a creative attacking midfield player, another wide player (preferably two!) and another forward. If he's not going to get a chance, may as well sell Sloth.
Evening Kiwi, we lack creativity. Pretty sure Ant n Wood will bang the goals in if good balls get delivered. On a positive we are 1000 times better then two seasons ago when we could not string a pass
Read some reports suggesting Forestieri could be on his way - I'd like to think he'd help us solve our creativity problems, but I won't get my hopes up too much on that one because he's probably going to want big wages. Pleased we're going down the route of proven Championship players though, much better than the failed experiment of last year. Still haven't gotten over Adryan
Yes, it started a few days ago, and has been building steam. Latest says we have now made a 3m bid for him
Fingers crossed over that one then. When was the last time we spent as much money as we have this summer
We won't score enough goals to threaten the top 6, I am happy with the improvement this year, although it is only slight on field off it we have improved. We are a couple of quality signings short still in my opinion.
Fair point Ristac. Having spent £3m on Wood, I hope he starts scoring more regularly than is currently the case
Would that be classed as being positive? If so then to balance it we are 2 points away from relegation, haven't won a game and knocked out the cup by lower league opposition
I think Wood will score goals, the problem is that he won't score enough to make up for the glaring deficiencies in his all round game. If he guaranteed us 30 a season like Beckford did in L1, it wouldn't matter so much, but I don't see him breaking 15.
I hope so too but he does look a bit of a lump and despite his height he doesn't win enough in the air... Dallas goes missing for long periods but when he does make a show he looks like he has something special in him. I am far more hopeful on Dallas and Adeyemi making an impression than Wood. I think Wood (and the amount he cost) is part of Roslers problem, he needs to fit a team and formation around him and knows Wood is probably better with two up front.
Like Doukara, he should be using his strength to bully defenders and hold it up by shielding the ball, but the pair of them are useless in that respect. I'm sure they can be taught to use their strength to their advantage, because they already have the physique, but you'd think they'd already know how Dallas and Adeyemi have potential, but with the paucity of wide options available, we can't afford for Dallas to only turn up half the time. Maybe another winger pushing him would help him form some consistency? Adeyemi I've been pleased with, but he needs help. He should be the younger player in the midfield, learning off a more experienced head, not the elder statesman trying to keep Cook, Mowatt and Phillips in check. Not really fair on him. If Rosler decides 2 up front is the best formation, we need another striker. Doukara seems useless, Antenucci is very hit and miss, and we're yet to see anything of Erwin.
17 months ago we signed McDaid And we all wanted to see what he was like, if Erwin can't get game time ahead of Doukara or even come on as a sub for Dallas you have to wonder what is amiss.
Don't think Dallas went missing just no one passed to him, wide open many times in the first half and we passed into midfield instead and often lost the ball.
Mowatt has shown more skill than any other midfielder I've seen in the Leeds team so far this season True, I haven't seen much of Doukara but Byram doesn't look comfortable in a wide midfield role to me
More accurately we passed OVER the midfield - especially in the first half We weren't good enough to play through Wednesday's midfield and Wood wasn't good enough to hold the ball up when punted long to him
Wood and Byram were the culprits today for giving the ball away in the last 3rd. Guilty of seeing it on TV so you don't see players in space and ignored.
Berardi isn't bad at right back - in fact the defence is easily Leeds' best unit I like Taylor and Bamba is the best Summer signing in a while The midfield though is dire - Mowatt might not be everyone's cup of tea - and I can see why - but he's the best passer in the midfield by a long way from what I've seen.
