the bits i saw (cos my stream kept dropping out) i thought AJ was scared of following in because Ruiz beat the crap out of him when he tried it in the first fight so he tried the jab tactic that won him the rematch but never came close to keeping Usyk off him

I don't think so. He just didn't know what to do and never established the jab at all.
If he'd have fought off the counter and used his size advantage, then he might've had a chance.
He just looked bewildered and kept getting **** advice from his corner.
