I've just started to get into Lee Child - They're all pretty much the same but fantastic reads. Apart from that...i'll read most things once.

Shantaram is an amazing book.

Any CJ Samson book is worth a read if you in to historical fiction - set around Henry viii and the Tudor period.

Enjoyed life of Pi

James Oswald murder mysteries in Edinburg are worth a read.

Those of you that read Lee Child, which is the first "Jack Reacher" book? I'll give it a try, then I can work out the order of sequence if I like it!

<cheers>

I can't be arsed to read back so many pages.. Can someone give me a brief overview of what to read?

I have read pretty much all the lee child books. Liked the books by the guy that did the davinci code. Like books about murder read all the Harlan coben books.

Also I like mein campf.. <ok>

Other good reads:

Pretty much anything by Bernard Cornwell
Scott Mariani (Ben Hope series)
Simon Scarrow
David Gemmell
James Herbert
George MacDonald Fraser (Flashman series)

Really like Simon Scarrow's books about the Roman times. Great sense of humour used as well.
And he comes from Norwich so he must be class <ok>

Also add to the list Douglas freeman. He wrote a whole series of books about the Navy during Nelson's time, charting the life and career of a fictional sailor called Adam Bolitho.

Also a series of books I haven't read in a while, but have read them more than once, was the collection of books by Sven Hassell, about life during WW2 from a German Penal Battalion, and also the Spike Milligan Books about his time in the Army,

All of you who like "faction" (books based on history, but in story form) should check out James Michener, he has written some sensational stories about the past in USA and South Africa and Japan! Historically accurate but in simple story form!

Not me! I specialised in the Wars of the Roses at uni, did my dissertation on it. Not really found any decent fiction I could get into (the obsession with factual accuracy having been drilled into me since A-Level) however.

For those interested in WWII, (saw it mentioned extensively by someone earlier) The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer is really, really good. Written from the perspective of a German soldier on the Eastern Front. Was gripping to hear it from an Axis perspective.

John Grisham stuff is usually worth a look, though they are a little 'same-y' after a while.

Best book I've ever read though, hands down, no lie, is World War Z by Max Brooks. Absolutely genius in terms of format, storyline and immersion.

Just rececntly finished The Forgotten Soldier. Fantastic read

I have just downloaded the first Lee Child book to my Kindle, thanks to the recommendations here!

I have worked my way through most of John Grisham's stuff, but also a fan of Michael Connelly and David Baldacci - Baldacci wrote "Absolute Power", the film that Clint Eastwood did years ago, but the book is so different to the film - typical Hollywood!

Yeah great books by David baldacci.. Read a few of his books all very good.

I recommend Harlan coben though to everyone if you like murder mystery books. He also did a series with the same characters being myron bolitar. Brilliant series .
