Mclaren are faster than ferrari in quali. The only race where both mclaren cars were outqualified by a ferrari was in canada, and that's because mclaren were running more wing than any other top team.
Because it was blatantly illegal. please log in to view this image They claimed the Gurney flap along the trailing edge was used to activate DRS.
I think McLaren will be the ones to benefit the most because their qualifying wasnt as good as Ferrari and Red Bull in Canada. If you saw Lewis's onboard lap he was on the absolute limit of the car getting every last drop of performance out he was only 5th, and Jenson was only 7th. So I dont think JT is favouring anybody, if anything hes trying to keep F1 close and dragging Red Bull down half a second (maybe). We shall see come GB though.
If he's trying to take 1/2 second off red bull, then that'll make them the 3rd or 4th best team. Thats not really fair. They've worked hard on the car and deserve to be top. I agree about taking 2 tenths off them, but half a second is too much.
Good point! What I should have said though, is that the McLaren lags in quali compared to its performance during the race, therefore it seems to me that their special engine mapping isn't very special.
TBH, the only team that benefits from the mapping is RBR. I don't like the way F1 is going, punishing ingenuity, and encouraging conformity. Imagine if Isambard Kingdom Brunel was alive today, and designing the McLaren car, instead of ocean liners, and bridges, he'd be banned immediately. He and Newey would have to go to another sport if the FIA had their way.
I doubt the RB7's excellence is solely down to the effectiveness of their off-throttle blowing. Lotus Renault allegedly blow much harder than Red Bull but the R31 wasn't designed by Newey. It's also not strictly a question of who'll benefit from this since they'll all lose out. It's just a matter of how much of any advantage they have over their competitors that they'll lose, chiefly whether it will reduce Red Bull's qualifying advantage. In reality if Vettel gets pole by one tenth or eight tenths, he's still got pole. Red Bull's victories have also not been entirely down to qualifying performance. They're working extremely effectively as a team and both drivers have put in great drives. They also seem to be leading the field in avoiding the rub of the green and, when they have slipped up, the damage hasn't been catastrophic.
RBR seem to have the best of everything. Best F1 car Designer ever, Fastest Car, Fastest Driver, Best Pit Crews (barring monaco), Best Motorhome, They're the most accessible team etc. They don't behave like a big team, and i have respect for them because of that.
True but I was refering to just taking off whatever they do in Q3 that makes them go miles faster than Q2. It should be fun seeing Seb fighting hard from P4 or P5, we havent seen it all year, it would be a chance for him to silence the critics.
I dont think thats fair to say , Matt has made some good input, unlike some of yours. On subject it will be very interesting to see how quali and race rankings go , and will Red Bull lose some of their balance of power.
I agree, petty comments such as the one by trilogy10 aren't needed. I'm partly concerned by these new rulings coming in mid season because if the WDC ends up being anyone other the Vettel they'll be no end to the 'tainted championship' arguments! Of course, I'm also partly hoping this throws an advantage to the McLaren boys! Argh, it's a catch 22!
Sigh, same old same old. "Evil Todt", "Ferrari International Assistance", yawn. Same old tiresome paranoia and theories based on NOTHING! What expertise allows you to already prejudge the results of this ban? Dont seem to hear any mention of the fact that Di Montezemolo and Todt loath eachother, oh yes because it doesnt fit your baseless conspiracy theory. I would have thought that the recent cases of steward leniancy to McLaren misdemeanours would have pointed to the opposite being true.
I agree but not everyone is pushing the same old. As I said earlier, and others did too, I don't see this as a case of Ferrari International Asisstance at all. I think this may benefit McLaren although I don't see any pro-VMM conspiracy either. We should really wait and see what happens this weekend and at Silverstone; it's fun to speculate, though, and I'm looking forward to the coming races Incidentally, I didn't know that Monte and the Turd loathe each other: glad to hear it!
It will happen, I pissed myself in delight when the spagetti boys were pulverised in Canada, Alonso the crybaby and his little slut Massa are getting nowhere. And I am loving it.
We won't have long to wait to find out who is where with these changes. Come Saturday quali the lay of the land should be pretty clear. My gut tells me the top team effect in order of severity will be: Red Bull Renault Mercedes McLaren Ferrari It's just a hunch, no real science, just observations from comparing quali and race pace. Out of those teams the RB is the one that quite likely generates the most downforce from its aggressive mapping at the rear of the car. Their well designed front wing also produces plenty too. If they lose a arge amount or rearwards downforce then they will likely have to remove some front wing to keep the balance. I think balance will be the key issue here more than lack of rear end downforce. If the RBs end up average or even slow in the corners then the McLarens and Ferraris will just pick them off on the straights, especially with their under powered KERS.
Generally agree with that. I think it will hurt Red Bull most (judging by the massive amounts of time they'er able to pull out in qualifying) and Ferrari least. Not sure about the other three, McLaren have a pretty advanced system while Renault and Mercedes blow their whole floor rather than just the diffuser.
