If he stays, I fervently hope Mo comes good next season. It is posible that he is taking his time to adjust and if he is given a full pre-season training, he may well turn out to be the player that is expected. Likewise with Carillo if he comes back for full pre-season we may see his worth.
Carrillo simply isn't a player whose skillset matches our style of play. A full preseason isn't going to transform him into a mobile player capable of linking play, pressing and counter-attacking...he's a big galoot that wins headers if you punt the ball at him. Two-thirds of his shot attempts this year have been via headers, and his greatest skill is the number of aerial contests he wins. We aren't a punt-balls-at-big-galoots team, so he's neither a good match for us, nor are we a good match for him.
Snappy little phrase. Maybe the Northam could sing that. But isn't it a horses for courses game? When they bought in the big lad, shouldn't the instruction have been 'get it in the box early' rather than continuing with the MP2 way of 'keep the ball and do feck all with it'? Getting the ball in isn't the same as punting the ball in. Early crosses have brought us a few goals under Ralph - off the top of my head I can think of the Ings two against Arsenal; Long against Liverpool; Redmond's first against Wolves (OK. latter was on the ground, but still MP2 would have been screaming at Sims to 'hold it'!). Ralph likes to move the ball and get it to players in goal scoring positions before the opposition have re-shaped. Who knows, Carillo could benefit under that regime.
He became Chief Scout in UK after being Head of Recruitment, was that a demotion or role change? What is his pedigree like?
