hope buckle knows what he has taken on with all his signings. matty harrold was excellent in bringing the ball from midfield but always seem to lose his way up front. gasheads he is excellent on grass. he will keep it mighty short
Of course AFC Wimbledon were supposedly interested in Elder and now that Kedwell is leaving them there is a space... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13791764.stm
We need a targetman.. Is Collins that man? If he is, then I suspect Elder may leave. However, if Elder stays it begs the question IS HE BETTER THAN HARROLD? My honest opinion, no. But what do I know?!
paul buckle thinks he has a bargain and that matty is capable of playing L1 football. he is also capable of playing on the moon but methinks he may starve for lack of grass sounds as though the pirates have many bargains this month. april onwards will prove many things and pb may wish he was back on the english riviera. er floreat salopia and may the grass be greener in bristol for matty
Assuming he came on a 2 yr deal thereâs a fair chance he would have gone on a free at the end of this season so I reckon any money for him now is good business. Just about League 2 quality maybe but I donât see Buckleâs claims he can play at League 1 level â didnât look that way in the playoff matches or league games, and Wycombe certainly didnât think so. IMO Elder much the same as Harrold (Brentford got shot on getting promoted) and not convinced by Collins yet although early days. Of our strikers thereâs only Bradshaw Iâd particularly want to keep, being brutal, and he may yet be another Marco Addagio â got a feeling GT sees it the same way.
Bradshaw has already done heaps more than Addagio. Shame, I honestly would have liked to see Harrold and Elder partnered together because, whatever one might say about the latter, he does get into positions to miss which Collins seldom does.
Harrold was a harder worker and all round top bloke, but unfortunately has not got the quality to take town forward. IMO we have done well to receive a fee. Are Bradshaw and Collins good enough? Time will tell, both young lads, but this is the season they need to cement their claims otherwise GT will not keep them.
I think Collins is going to turn out to be a great player. He seemed to have shown all of the qualities and has a great passion. It's getting that elusive supply from a top notch midfielder that we need. Step up Grimes if you're watching!!
I think you're in a very small minority there, Kasule. I like Harrold and Elder, but finishing isn't a strength of either and a partnership of those two would have seen long ball after long ball and very few goals. Collins and Bradshaw have goals in them and are young enough to improve. With Harrold and Robinson moved on, we have space for a couple of really good replacements. Can we find them? But it bothers me a bit that we're getting diverted by the striker rumours. What about the midfield, consistently our biggest weakness for years? Who's coming in there? And how about some full backs while we're at it. Lest we forget, we don't have any at the moment.
My point about Elder is that he should not be viewed as a target man to hold the ball up. He has the pace to get into goal scoring positions and the perception to feed off a target man. Neither of these commodities are present in Collins, although obviously time will tell. (Collins needs to come good next season as he was only signed for 18 months)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Grimes_(English_footballer) http://www.millwallfc.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10367~37271,00.html Both of these sites state Grimes is a midfielder so if we do sign him that is a midfield position filled.
It won't be Ashley Grimes who has been hijacked by Rochdale and whose new manager used to coach him at Man City
Bugger it, get some wow players in GT or Salop will be left hanging on to the coatails of the top 10!
