Jesus christ....People really need to start watching some non-English football. It's not the be all and end all of football and he's hardly beavering away at some backwater club in Montenegro.
Just because he didn't know who he was doesn't mean he's completely ignorant to foreign football. I didn't have a clue who he was either but that doesn't mean I couldn't name half of the Munich squad, along with Dortmund and the likes of Athletico Madrid, Villarreal To be honest I have no idea who's in charge of pretty much any foreign team other than Madrid and Barca. It doesn't mean I don't know the players.
Well that's nothing to be proud of! The manager is every bit if not more important than the players. If someone said "Who's the manager of Man City?" you might scoff a little and ask if they even knew football. And 'Madrid and Barca' doesnt that sum it up? Sky Sports dictates exactly what people know about football these days. If they had their way there wouldnt be any leagues existing that they didnt have the rights to.
I didn't say I was proud of it.. We live in England, so we primarily follow English football, foreign football takes a back seat for most people, and some don't watch any at all. Roberto Mancini is constantly on the TV and headlining English sports websites every couple of days, so to compare the knowledge of his existence in comparison to the Bayern manager is beyond ludicrous. You don't half come out with some crap. It's nothing to do with Sky - Madrid and Barca are huge clubs with two of the best stadiums in the world, not to mention that Jose Mourinho was formerly manager of Chelsea and that Barcelona are considered the best team in the world - of course people are going to know more about them than Panathinaikos! It's general knowledge! Sky make money where they can like any other business - I seriously doubt their boss is sat on a swivel chair, stroking a white cat, plotting the downfall of the Austrian football league.
I can't stand foreign football it just doesn't interest me. I didn't know who he was either but don't care who he is.
I think the reason some people don't bother with foreign football is because they have no passion for it. For me if Liverpool play Everton then I'll want Everton to win, but if Roma play Lazio, I can't say as either team excites me! Barca & Madrid, that interests me but even then not as much as an English game as I know more about the English teams & would more than likely favour one over the other! Even the play off finals interest me. I used to actually book the weekend off work to watch all 3 down the pub.
Why does everyone need to start watching non-english football? Maybe we aren't interested in it. I watch very little champions league stuff & never bother with the Europa cup thingy.
Indeed he did. Expected to sign for Manchester City. Gareth Bale to Spain IF Tottenham dont get into the Champions League next season. Reading to take Hunt and Doyle back to Reading from Wolverhampton. Southampton favourites to sign Gareth McCleary from Nottingham Forest on a Free transfer. Robert Green(west ham) to Malaga also on a Free transfer and Champions League football.
Wasn't he Real Madrid's manager at one time too? Played for Borussia Monchengladbach in their heyday in the early Seventies before stepping up to manage them (ala NB), before going onto Bayern Munich the first time around and then Real Madrid. I think I've got all that right but it's purely from memory as I haven't got time to check just now! I'm sure he'll have managed elsewhere abroad too.
He's got one hell of CV... 1979–1987 Borussia Mönchengladbach 1987–1991 Bayern Munich 1992–1994 Athletic Bilbao 1994–1995 Eintracht Frankfurt 1995–1997 Tenerife 1997–1998 Real Madrid 1999–2000 Benfica 2001–2003 Athletic Bilbao 2003–2004 Schalke 04 2006–2007 Borussia Mönchengladbach 2009 Bayern Munich 2009–2011 Bayer Leverkusen 2011– Bayern Munich
No chance of the Allams putting him the short list then, even forgetting the wages he would command ?
They won't want him. Apart from '1979–1987 Borussia Mönchengladbach' he hasn't held a position down for more than four years in a row. Must be one of these damned hippie types who gets itchy feet after two minutes in the job.
hazard will join man city... with toure brothers , nasri all french speakers as well as his captain kompany, i dont see ow e'll join man u
Rumours? Soon? Do you mean the rules that came into force years ago stopping any one broadcaster from buying all the live match bundles from the PL?
Liverpool have allegedly sounded out AVB and are hoping to meet with Didier Deschamps next week(you can still get 33/1 with some bookies on Deschamps this morning). Rumours of Villa wanting Poyet(you can still get 25/1 with some bookies on that one).
