The first things I'm looking for in a writer is does their work flow and communicate. If it seems to at face value, then precisely what has been communicated, followed by the other standard questions. Thereafter it's a question of concision: the most said in the fewest words being the mark of excellence imo.

For me, Mr Skinner's piece meets the basic standard, falters in his one dimensional range (i.e. a summary of 90+ minutes game time) and is reasonably concise.

I don't know who we'd include as QPR writers but for me Mac's probably the most (quietly) sophisticated in concisely bringing a new and entirely credible slant to background issues; and Clive flows okay but often bites off far more than we can chew.

As for Rangercol, whilst I know he wouldn't consider himself a QPR writer in any sense, not only do his match reports flow and communicate, they also score on range (pre-game goings on with his sons etc. and player ratings) and concision. Tells it like it is and certainly doesn't overdo his evident love for Trapped and Faurlin. Totally unpretentious and up there with the best imo, when he puts his mind to it.

As for the bloggists, our mate Roller's certainly made a lot of progress over the past year or so; and then the best out there for me atm, TIME. Another one who scribes on Hoops just for the hell of it - but who realises that most of us will have seen the game for ourselves, and tends to opt for the periferies with a surprise or two tucked somewhere in between. Great stuff. Top man!

It time for Frank Jesus to return in an attempt to help out a tortured Irish soul, sitting alone in Airside Retail Park in his Pink Nissan Micra reading a telephone directory

Brix, that's all I want from a report and I would expect, others too. Anything on top of that is a big no no. Clive's waffle about his ride on the Tube, the quality of his pie etc is the last sh*t I want to read when wanting to see how the game went. I find that stuff to be overbearing. (Not COL though - that's different because I kind of "know" him because he's one of us and he's very much the layman and not a journalist or Web reporter).

Oddball, you fail to realize how important these reports were to people in times past. Your scorn appears somewhat conceited if I may say so.

I like reading all diffrent types and styles of report written from Cols to Clives.
Ihelps bring together a sense of feeling of whatthe entire day was like coupled with some factual and opinionated reviews on the players performances.
After reading a 4 or 5 you can eventually read between the lines and work out who played well, what happened etc. Let me say that there are as many positive reports written as negative. that coupled with watching the game either at the ground or/and on TV probably gives the most complete picture of what actually went on.
We also forget about our own Judo who was until recently, a very prolific writer.
Its kind of like this baord, such a mix of views, opinions and characters, that it all works well together (most of the time) and complements each other. Keep up the good work guys!

They've put in a McDonald's drive-thru there now so I can have a Big Mac whilst I go through all the "M's". I'm not quite as quick as rain-man but I'd give him a run for his money.

    Now you're talkin'!!

What did we do before this Forum was created?!

All I ask from reports is balance and possibly a view or two that hasn't occurred to me. Some passion mixed in is a bonus as is a poetic prose or humour.

Haven't read a bad one on here (Col responsible for the majority).

Agree with Swords that some reviews can be interpreted once you're used to them (not same subject but I used to do it with the Times film reviews where their serious ones were good but they slated most action films off hand).

Agree there's still a place for one dimensional match reporting (especially if we go down and streams and Sky re-runs ain't available) - but I do like the add-ons as may be offered from various angles.

I personally enjoy rangercols and Judo's efforts more. Because they are amateurs ( I dislike that word. ) and do not pretend to be otherwise. They say it as they see it, without any pretensions, where as the others do. They think they are professional writers as the former don't. This leaves room for debate and interaction without prejudice. Where as so called pro bloggers think they have the final say, and that they are the know all and be all. rangercol and Judo realise this and except, and expect it. Good stuff.

Is this the Depeche Mode song? Absolutely brilliant interpretation, real blues from the king of country. Only he and Joe Strummer coulld have done this with any credibility....sacrilege in anyone else's hands

Was I the only one amused that to see that the last four letters of "m.i.s.h.i.t." get asterixed out when you're on 'no swearing'?

    Oh, little things...

I have to rely on second hand reports, especially after I have come back from home games this season, to make sure that what I had been watching had been as bad as I thought it had been and someone had witnessed it well and it was not merely a case that I had been having a negative trip when someone spiked my bottle of Carlsberg before the game - which in fairness does usually taste like it has been spiked.
