Whats the story with the Bochum result anyway, were we just pish, or were the players put off by a plane with a banner, or what?
Best - Arsenal winning the title at Trafford/White Hart Lane Worst - Losing 2 goals in 15 minutes against barca in the champions league final
Best - beating Hereford to reach the second round of the FA Cup Worst - being knocked out of the Herts Charity Cup by Berkhamsted
I think it was easier to do well in Europe in the past. For example, I don't think the scousers would be able to crow about their "5 times" if they'd had to play a team the calibre of the current Barcelona team rather than the likes of Borussia Moenchengladbach (sp) and Saint Ettiene. The same applies to Nottingham Forest beating Malmo. Not that I'm bitter or anything
Would i be right in assuming you do not remember Anfield 1989 then? I'm no Arsenal fan but it's one of my most memorable moments watching football.
Best - Too many to choose from, Novo pen v Fiorentina, the CL run of '93, the Treble of 2003, Lovenkrands Scottish cup final, Manchesters '08, the first helicopter Sunday, Mo Edu's last minute goal in 2010 OF game, Thammy missing that pen. Worst - Realising that O'neils Celtic were better than us and ****ting yourself every time the OF game came up (though admittedly, we ended up doing not bad against his team......... eventually)
I would suggest that there were a lot more quality teams in the past as football wasn't dominated by money as much as it is now. Nowadays, it's very difficult for a team outside of the usual suspects to win the European cup. Countries like Hungary, Yugoslavia, Holland and Scotland produced wonderful teams because they could build teams and keep hold of good players. These days they're snapped up by EPL and La Liga teams.
You'll remember the Mighty Magyars like yesterday won't you gramps. Thing is, when Sellick won old big ears, they played 7 games and beat shiity teams to get there then the irony of it, you know with all these refs from all over the world against you, you won with an offside goal When Rangers won the ECWC, we had a harder run than your lot did. Yes?
the teams shellick beat to reach ra big cup final were superb. giants of world football!! who were they again? anyone?
Did you actually read what I wrote? You cannot compare teams today with teams 30 or 40 years ago. Football has changed. Why is it Rangers fans cannot recognise this fact? Oh that's right, despite the European Cup being easier to win in the old days you still couldn't manage it, could you?!? Diddy football team
Fair dos Aberdeen - it was amazing. I was in my local with 2 Arsenal fans and pretty much everyone else wanting Liverpool to win (it's always been good like that in London....). When Thomas buried it the place emptied immediately.
Best: Helicopter Sunday Worst: Scotland's 1978 World Cup (despite Archie's goal)
The smaller teams may have been better, but I don't think the top teams were as good as they are these days. And there were still some really piss poor outfits out there. Didn't Liverpool beat Crusaders on the way to one of their titles?
Celtic beat the champions of Spain, France, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Italy to win the European Cup. The nearest Rangers came was drawing with CSKA Moscow (although they did beat them in a neutral venue) and drawing with Bruges (flukily at that). In relevant terms, ****E.
Celtic have really struggled in the Euro Cup/Champs Leage since John Steen left. They've not won an away game in the EC/CL since beating Shamrock Rovers in 1986
