Isn't that the old Ivor Innis mansion - the professional photographer who's shop is/was on the corner of Hessle Square, just opposite The Granby pub ? Only a couple of summers ago, I had a mate of mine, who still lives in Hull, go and check a property just down the road from this spot (towards the foreshore) that I was interested in possibly buying. He said it was a great deal, but specifically mentioned he'd not take the risk himself because of the danger of possible sea flooding ! The coast is gradually moving westwards it would seem. What the hell: FACT
there are inland salt mining areas where the local salt was bunged there millions of years back. one clue nowadays is place names ending in -wich or, sometimes, -wick, -wych, etc. examples include northwich, middlewich, nantwich, droitwich, and, perversely, sandbach. but not norwich.
this whole thread has reminded me of a debate i watched on tv many years back. no idea what the topic was, but i do recall one female commencing a line with "i deny the fact that..." which seemed like admitting defeat rather early.
it's weird how often when a team folds for double figures - or fewer - one partnership has added a third or more of the total.
HI DBT FYI.....John Selwyn-Gummer was a Tory party minister who reckoned that Hull was on the coast in order to limit some funding, until someone politely told him it wasn't Should you require any info about JSG...browse away https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gummer
So Saltmarshe isn't sea salt even though the Ouse is tidal up to York, I guess the tide is fresh water being pushed back up the rivers then and Saltend really is the extent of sea water?
